SUPERSIZE ME-Dead ON!!!
One movie that really affected me was SUPERSIZE ME. For those of you who haven't seen the movie, it is basically about a guy who asks the question, "What would happen if I ate McDonalds every day?" Well, as it turns out, terrible things. He bloats, losses energy, becomes irritable and depressed.
This is spot on. I saw this in action at the last English School I worked for. It made me realize that eating good is part of a spiritual way of living.
Now that I am in Japan and I am buying and making my own food, I have resolved to only put good and spiritual things into my body. I eat mostly veggies and tofu and for breakfast brand and fruit. I feel great. You should do it too. |

Food affects different people in different ways.
One becomes a vegetarian and feels great, another becomes lethargic and grumpy.
I function best with home cooking: beef, chicken, fruit, eggs, milk, veggies,... many soups and stews, not greasy oily foods, not prepackaged sauces and dressings, not refined sugars nor soda pop.
But that was my upbringing too. And when I've deviated from the formula in attempts to eat "healthier" or the other way "out in restaurants" I've found I don't feel as well.
Korean barbeques, gimchi, stews and spicy food in general make me feel wonderful, especially compared with Western restaurant fare. In moderation. But I don't feel great when I eat those deep fried finger foods at the sidewalk stalls. Nor when I eat pork even when grilled.
To each one's own.
As for QUANTITY, yeah, I always feel best when I'm a bit hungry rather than full. Smaller portions stimulate my senses more and I walk around with an appetite. |

You know, if you only live on a diet of one variety of food, you are bound to feel awful.
That movie went to the extreme of solely having the person eating McDonalds EVERY day for EVERY meal.
Who would have McD daily?
Once in a while, as a treat, is not going to really kill you or hurt you.
That's why nutritionists tell you to have a BALANCED diet....
A bit of everything. |

That movie is a scam. The dude eats way too much, super sizes everything, and always drinks the regular Coke. He ate way more than average for every single meal.
One lady who saw the movie decided to call his bluff and she did the exact same thing, ate at McD every meal for 2 or 3 months, and lost tons of weight.
It saddens me that young people are no longer being taught critical thinking. American education is becoming more and more like Korea's every day. Kids like seoulmon automatically believe everything they see on TV because they never learned to consider the filmmaker's motives or read between the lines. |

I'd say her experience wasn't any more scientific than the first guy's. For one thing, the lady exercised regularly, which most people don't do. Besides, I question her motives as she supposedly worked for an add agency that had McD's as a client. |

Now that's critical thinking! |

No he didn't, he only supersized when they offered which was only about 4 times in the month. He ate normal mcd's breakfast lunch and dinner meals, unless asked if he wanted to supersize. What i liked was his first super meal when he got 3/4s of the way through it and vomited it all out his car window, awesome...just go's to show what sort of a reaction an average sized person should have to ingesting that much crappy food.
O yeah...that and the guy who WENT TEMPORARILY BLIND from drinking too much soda. He would drink 6 or 7 1 litre cups a DAY!!!!!. Crikey...some people have no fricken idea aye!. |

He didn't seem to have any agenda to me other than wanting to make a good movie that would get him paid. He said how much he liked the food. |

EXACTLY! The guy was neither pro- nor anti- McDonald's, he was just chasing the angle that would get the most attention and therefore money. Substitute "popular" for "good" though. |

I thought it was most interesting how addicted he got to the food. Kind of makes you wonder what Mickey D's puts in their food.
I have a feeling that when you eat crap all the time, your body just gets used to it and you feel normal. But then when you make the switch, you realize how much better good food is for your body.
I became a vegetarian last summer and went cold turkey on the fast food and have way more energy ever since then.
A great book for those interested in the topic is "Fast Food Nation." Even more disturbing than Supersize Me and what convinced me to give up meat for good. |

It's full of MSG, salt, fats and sugar (the sodas). People tend to crave salts, fats and sugar. There is another thread floating around right now on the evils of MSG.
None of this stuff is in the least bit healthy, but it tastes so damned good to most people.
Let's see- fast, easy, relatively cheap, and full of exactly the things that people crave- a great formula for success. Too bad it is all completely and utterly terrible for the human body. |

The guy that made Supersize Me was a vegan before he went on the all McD diet. Of course such a drastic change would affect your body drastically. The movie was funny and very entertaining, but, it's nothing but sensationalism. Please, people - don't be so gullible.
Btw, there are some people who do eat McD, or some kind of fast food, every day. I used to work with a woman who ate McD EVERY morning, and usually for lunch.
When I was in college, I became dependant on fast food because of working a 40-hour job, studying, etc. So I was eating fast food 2-3 times a day very often. I gradually climbed up the scale, and decided enough was enough. Dropped all fast food instantly, and lost 40 pounds in about, oh... one month, and never gained it back.
I never did try the 2/3 lb. Thickburger from Hardee's, though.
Imagine eating one of these every day for a month. |

Unfortunately, I could. . . imagine it that is. I never eat fast food- but few things appeal to me like a juicy bacon cheese burger (real cheese, not that plastic sort- preferably good sharp cheddar or blue). That's the problem- it really tastes good, so it takes a conscious mindset against it to avoid it. I just don't eat fast food at all, and that has settled the problem. We don't have to indulge all of our desires. |

Well, the guy wasn't actually vegan, his girlfriend was. But I think he'd been eating vegetarian for quite a while. |

Well, he did say he would only eat from the menu. McD's has salad, milk, juice, and a few other healthy choices available. So, why didn't he just go for the healthier items on the menu? Simply put, nobody in their right mind would eat McD's greasy food three times a day unless they wanted to get noticed as a film maker. The guy's girlfriend is/was a vegetarian chef, so I wonder how that could have influenced his decision to make the movie. |
