Canadians probably account for 1/3 of the ppl who read this board so I am in no way trying to insult them here... just wanna know....

I dont have any official numbers on this but I can make a pretty fair guess from personal experience that it's true: There are about as many Canadians as there are Americans here.

However, I heard that the entire population of Canada is the same size as the single State of California...

While there seem to be as many Canadians as Ams. here, their numbers greatly outnumber those of Brits, Aussies, and NewZealanders...

Now I realize some Canadians might take this thread the wrong way; You see, Ive made no effort on this board to hide the fact that I dont like Korea and only tolerate it because I can save money here... money that I can later use and enjoy somewhere else!

However, I've never even bean,er, been to Canada. So actually I don't have an opinion of it.

Do recruiters and others do a better job of advertising in Canada?

Considering they make up less than 1% of the native English speaking population yet make up about 15-20% of the teachers here I'd say Kiwis are very over-represented in Korea.

Not that it matters one jot where somebody is from, I just always found it a bit strange.

Because we're losers who couldn't make it back home and (in the case of the guys) get a date in a land of lousy jobs and unemployment, whereas America is a land of dreams and opportunities where anyone with a uni degree is looking at a future of big homes and SUVs, leaving only eccentric weirdos to come to Korea. I'm sure the fact that we have 1/10 the population but more English teachers here than the US has nothing to do national character.

More Canadians have passports per capita, so maybe we like to travel more. God, who knows? There are so many factors it's way beyond the posters at this board to guess. For Asia, the Japanese travel the most outside their country per capita than any other country in Asia. What does that mean?

In the UK it's fairly easy for a young person to travel, and down under they have the idea of a gap yeah, so lots of people get the travel bug out of their system that way.

In Canada it's so bloody expensive to travel even within our own country that when we see something that says "free airfare", we're on it. Razz

-a higher percentage of canadians go to university and earn a a degree.
-young canadians like to travel and explore
-many are waiting for the supposed retirement boom of teachers in Canada. -I'd much rather travel the world and teach than be a supply teacher for several years.

Haha, thats cause its so easy to get into university/ polytechnic/ info tech , that everyone has a degree worth diddly squat and find themselves with nothing else to do. free airfare and a job = over reprensentation of basket weavers and pottery makers!

nb.....i know im over generilising here, but under the humour is some sort of facts. cant be ar$ed looking for actual numbers so ill just post drivle

I replied to this exact same question about 2 weeks ago in a different thread, so I am not going to here.

This is very true. When I was in high school, I had 7 teachers who also taught my mom when she was in high school, and she is 31 years older than me. Now, that's been a few years now and I think most of those teachers have retired. I am pretty sure that in the past 2 years almost all the teachers in my old high school have changed.

Easy: They are the richest people in Asia.

Less jobs and less money in Canada has a lot to do with it too, sorry to say.

The Canadian economy is somewhat different from the American one. In Canada, the major industries are all resource based. That means, if you get an undergraduate degree in the liberal arts, you are totally unemployable. In America you are slightly more employable (but the degree is still a total jack).

So, there are more Canadians here because we simply don't have an economy that can absorb, at a living wage, the huddled masses of liberal arts undergrads that we pump out.
