You can tune a radio but you can't tuna fish. (I think that is an old, old Frank Zappa line that I just couldn't resist.)
Now that I got that out of my system, just look at the different cans. Most tuna does seem to come in oil, but there is some packed in water. Tuna is being marketed with lots of different stuff these days. One of them is water. I don't have a can handy in my cupboard so I can't give you any details. Sorry.
If you can't figure it out, ask one of the grocery store clerks (bigger grocery stores). The word for water is (mool). They should be able to help you. |

Hi, I have also have never been able to find tuna in a can without oil. I have only found tuna in water in a foil package. You know the foil package that you can take camping or hiking. I found this in a small town after a Korean friend brought it on a weekend hiking trip. It was great.
If you can't find it - canned tuna in oil can be washed and tasted ok. I know how you feel - tuna in oil is greasy and fishy tasting.
Ask a Korean friend to help you if you cannot find it. Hope this helps. |

Tuna packed in water is available, I have found one Korean brand. Unfortunately, I can't find a picture of the can online, but the can has a light blue label and it has the Chinese character for water - - inside a pink circle.
I haven't seen it in every supermarket, but it's reasonably common. World Cup Stadium Carrefour definitely carries it, and a little market in my neighborhood also does, so check the ajumma marts near you. |

I've pretty-much boycotted it now. The species is on it's way to being wiped out. Taiwanese fish-factories vacuum up huge quantities of tuna daily, but the party is almost over. Heaven knows what Asia is going to do when it runs out, since it's effectively a staple food.
Do the planet a favour and eat something else. |

i don't know man. all i've got to go on is what i've seen first hand. for a nearly extinct species, it's still pretty cheap in the supermarket. and when i went fishing in thailand, the tuna were all but jumping into our boat. we definately caught well more than we could eat. more often than not, we'd catch two or three on the same line. i even caught one in the side. he put up a hell of a fight. |

Illegal Tuna Fishing and Farming Leads to Demise of Species
NEW ORLEANS -- November 11 -- In advance of a critical meeting of government and industry leaders on the fate of vulnerable Atlantic bluefin tuna stocks, World Wildlife Fund (WWF) today called on participants to make urgent, far-reaching moves to end mismanagement and stop illegal fishing and farming methods used to produce tuna to meet growing consumer demands from the United States, China, Japan and Korea.
The 14th Special Meeting of the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tuna (ICCAT), an intergovernmental body, will convene in New Orleans from November 15 to 21 as a recent report from Advanced Tuna Ranching Technologies (ATRT) confirms that the highly exploited tuna stock may soon be commercially extinct. The report highlights the illegality and unsustainability of a number of tuna fishing and "fattening" practices in the Mediterranean.

I used to get some from Walmart. It doesn't come in a can but instead it comes in a packaged bag. Don't know the brand, but it was yellow with a blue label. |
