The Northern Kims are getting ready to shake a stick at the US and Japan
and supposedly South Korea.
Is it a cool stare or a cry for attention??? Is everyone to preoccupied arguing over the dastardliness of the Islamic world to pay attention to troubles much closer to home (away from home)?

1. The missle is a joke, its just a bunch of missiles stuck together and isn't really a threat, yet.
2. They are pissed that the US is giving into Iran and they haven't got anything.
The only thing that sucks is that it will just give the US another reason to try and build their ridiculous time machine oops, I mean the missile defense shield. |

And did I read somewhere that they'd be using this test missile for target practise? (hunting around... found it!)

Fingers crossed. |

Crossed FOR (as in 'Goody, goody gum drops. That would serve KJI right!') or AGAINST target practice (as in Jesus God, No! Don't do it, George. Don't do it!)? |

Really, a missle would give us all a bit of entertainment here at school, something to look at over our coffee cups. Does anyone know when the launch is? Is it a secret or are they taking suggestions? I would definitely recommend firing it off at morning tea time, just before fourth period starts. |

Lots of fingers crossed here.
AGAINST the Norks test-firing
Failing that,
FOR the missile to explode on the launchpad
Failing that,
FOR an interception |

Wow! For once I agree with OH. Why waste a perfectly good missile by splashing down in the water? I have nothing against fish. Crashing into a major population center...now that would be....oh, what is that word? Ah, yes. Amusing. |

Doomsday scenario: North Korea's missile launch goes off impressively on July 2 or 3. Top U.S. warmongers, fired up by Fourth of July pageantry (and spectacular crashes at the Pepsi 400 in Daytona...) prevail over cooler heads and launch a pre-emptive tactical nuclear strike at North Korea. Chinese commie leaders, yielding to public opinion to defend their brave comrades, join the fray once again in a possible final resolution of the Korean war... |

Meanwhile, in attempt to stop the Chinese the US/ROK/Japan alliance offer a deal with Taiwan who declares independance and launches its strategic missles destroying Shanghai and the Three Gorges Dam. World War Three begins and Koreans get their collective wish, moving from a mere footnote in history textbooks to a main player. And the mess that Gavrilo Princip started finally comes to an end. |

Is it just me, or has Kim Jong been jumping around long enough saying "Attack us! Attack us!!!" ?? |

Well it doesn't look like the legacy will be going on for a third generation so perhaps this is one of Kim's final hurrahs? Or perhaps the generals are running the show and the only thing generals are good for is starting and fighting wars.

Rare Sighting of Kim Jong-ils Clapton-Loving Son
A video clip showing a man presumed to be North Korean leader Kim Jong-ils son Kim Jong-chol (25) in Germany has been broadcast by Japans Fuji TV. Jong-chol is widely tipped to be his fathers chosen successor. Two Americans who say they were friends of Kim junior at school in Switzerland told the TV network the man in the video is Kim Jong-chol. He was born to Kim Jong-il and Go Young-hee, Kims second wife who died in May 2004, and studied as a teenager in Bern and Geneva, Switzerland. After his older brother Kim Jong-nam (36) embarrassed himself in Japan and China, Jong-chol is expected to succeed his father as North Korean leader.

The man in the clip is about 170 cm tall and is accompanied by a young woman. The party consists of four or five people. Fuji TV said Kim was in Germany for an Eric Clapton concert.
The footage adds substance to rumors that Kim junior is in Europe. That has given rise to speculation that there is factional strife in the North over the succession. North Korea experts here remain fundamentally skeptical that the Kim family can rule the country for a third generation. Kim Jong-il, after being officially appointed as his late fathers successor in 1974, played the role of a de-facto no. 1 over 20 years. But at the time, the North Korean economy was not in the dire straits it is in now. Kim Jong-il had no difficulty taking power after his father because hed been groomed for the position for a long time, a South Korean government source said. But that would not be the case for his sons. There are many North Korea experts overseas who agree on this point. |

Adverse attention is better than no attention.
One way to gain world recognition for your country is to threaten the US with a missile.
To be taken as a serious opponent would be another thing altogether. |

The USSR sent the US in a panic when an ICBM that the CIA knew nothing about was shown for the first time in parade in Moscow. The US spent millions of dollars developing a missile that would have a range as great as the estimated for the Russian missile. In the late 90's, one of the Russian aerospace engineers who worked on the missile said that it was his proudest professional achievement because he designed a sophisticated hydrolics systm that made the cardboard props appear as if they weighed tons. |

Id love to see the US intercept that missile. I know what th DPRK would say "shooting down our missile was a histile action that proved that the US is the only party interested in destabilizing the situation on the Korean peninsula". They are so predictable. |
