Hi, Ok so I know this has all been said before but how do I get a working visa for Korea? I have been offered several jobs down in Pusan which is where I want to be. They say I need sealed transcripts of my degree. Im in Bangkok with my original degree cert. Can I go to the Korean embassy for them to take a look and aprove it, or do I really need to contact my University and get them to send it to me? People keep telling me different things.

Also the school says it will pay for a visa run to Japan so I know I have to see that written in the contract. But does that mean I can fly over to Korea with my original, start working for the school then take my visa run to Japan. Obviously I will have to get a tourist visa to start with. If I do this then I do not need to get transcripts??

Oh and the job, well I have been offered a two bed luxury apt for sole use, round trip airfare and visa run paid. Hrs 2pm to 6pm Mon to Fri, no weekends, 2.2 million/month. Sounds like an averages deal to me and a deal that suits me.

Ok many thanks for reading this and if antone can shed a little light for me then great.
Cheers Julian

Like everything in Korea it changes with the wind and you may be able to get away without the transcripts but i would order some because if immigration gets a bug up their ass you will be SOL. So order transcripts and try to get your visa in Bangkok rather than flying to korea and then flying back to Japan. You also can't fly to Korea on a tourist visa without a return ticket (thats the law, whether it gets enforced, well luck of the draw).

So, with transcripts, if I went to college for 2 years, and then went to a university for 3 years, using transfer credits, would they require just my university transcripts??

Just your UNI transcripts should be enough, They should show the transfer credits on them.

Ok so I need to get hold of my transcripts. This is gonna take at least four weeks or more so Im stuck in Bangkok. I still don't get it why do they require these when I have the original? Surely immigration recognize an original cert when they see one.
Hmmmm
Many thanks

This transcript buisness is all fallout from last years Work N' Play fiasco. Its a way to weed out unqualified teachers which most of us agree with, now if only they could weed out the scumbag hogwon owners!

Hey
So when I recieve my transripts here in Thailand I send them of to the school for them to process?? Or I can get them sent straight to the school. So everytime I apply for a job I have to contact my University and ask them to send me sealed transcripts. How can I get away with only doing this once?
Also can you explain the different visas for me, Im from England so I guess theres only two or three which would be working, tourist and ......

Cheeeeers

Have your school send them direct. To elaborate on the requirement, a number of "teachers" were working in Korea with false credentials. When it came to light, immigration started requiring every E-2 visa holder to go down to the immigration office and (1) show their diploma (usually) and (2) attest that it was legitimate. Schools, such as my university, required sealed copies of transcripts even though I had been teaching there for almost four years.

To work in a hogwan you will need to get an E-2 visa before you start working. There are other options if you are married to a Korean.

Oh, and you cannot get by with doing this only once, unfortunately. Everytime you change employers you will probably be required to go through it again.

Hey
So I get my University to send them direct to the school? Do I only have to do this once so the immigration office have my documents? I mean if I apply for more than one job do I have to go through my Uni every time and send sealed copies to every employer??? That will be a real pain in the ass.

You only need your diploma and sealed transcripts for the visa processing, not the job application process. It's immigration who requires them. Until you decide on a job and sign a contract, no school 'needs' them. Once you sign a contract, you send your diploma (or official notarised copy), sealed transcripts, signed contract, photos, and whatever else they ask for to your school so they can begin the visa process. (You can get your university to send them to your school if you want as it might save time, but you will still have to send them your other stuff.) Immigration will then give the school a visa confirmation number, which you send (or take) to the Korean embassy with your passport, more pictures and a filled out visa application form and they issue you your visa (3ish day process). Then you're good to go.

They checked on both connections of my flight. The fake ticket to Japan worked, though.

Ahem...if you are a member of Asiana Airlines, you can make a reservation without paying for it, and even go to the page where you would pay for your ticket, enter your credit card information, print the page, and then cancel it.

Not honest, but it worked for me.
