My boss told me and my co-workers today that we would have to do a tv ad next week that would be aired nationally. Apparently, in the ad we would all have to sing the hagwan song! This sucks and I won't do it without a serious bonus. I have been trying to squeeze an extra couple vacation days out of my boss....

What do you all think about this? Anybody been in a similar situation?

I am torn between Very Happy and Embarassed

Could be a great laugh or super embarrassing. Your hagwon has a theme song? How many teachers? Can you sort of blend and hide up the back and just mime???

You HAVE to keep us up to date on this one... let us know when it's airing Very Happy and I'll be glued to the set with a bowl of microwave popcorn trying to see if I can guess which one you are.

Do it!! Even if it's the worst thing you ever do, it'll make a great story.

And yes, we will all laugh.

Can I have your autograph????!!!!!!
We had to have our pictures taken for print ads. The dog and pony show thing. Of the original 5 teachers in the ad only three of us are left with another one leaving soon...... 4 months later and it's already out of date.

Well, its a chain hagwan...GnB...and my boss is really trying hard to prove to the GnB head office that her hagwan is good, so i think she volunteered me thinking that it would make everyone at GnB happy. I don't know...

Not at all constructive, but I thought I should contribute.

I hate GnB.

Thanks.

ahhh, do it. There are far worse ways to act like an idiot on national tv (as I have done) and at least here your relatively unknown. Do it, keep a copy and laugh about it sometime later.

The company is making money off you by using the ad. So should you. It's all about the money. Your company does nothing for free.

You can set the tone you want for the relationship with your employer, but why not consider what you are doing to and for yourself by making your employer's request problematic.

Why not enthusiastically get behind the idea and do your best?

I am a firm believer that some day it will all come back to you.

Check out the other foreigners doing ads and their fees. Scale your expectations, however.

Yes, Hiddink is famous and can claim a premium.

Lutz Deschamps, President of Diageo, is less famous but still gets paid quite a bit for some car ads.

If you've seen ads for Korea Exchange Bank with an older distinguished foreign gentleman in them, keep in mind that he is an Executive Vice President of the bank. I highly doubt they convinced that "you are an employee, you must!)

But I agree with the others. The questions is not "should i do it?" Of course you should, what a blast and a memory. The question is "should I get paid for it, and if so, how much."

Now I'm thinking of that TV show "Before they were *stars*". I wonder if those actors were firm believers of it coming back to them Very Happy
