That's right. They must have realized that their ambitions to become the "Hub of Asia" might have been a tad pretentious, so now they've gone and decided to be the "Soul of Asia". My. Ass. If Koreans represented the "soul" of Asia, no one would ever want to visit Asia. Ever. "Dark soul of Asia" might be appropriate. Rampant adultery, lack of respect for everyone, raging egos, general lack of any knowledge of how to conduct oneself as a HUMAN BEING....If Koreans are representative of the Soul of Asia, Jeffery Dahmer must have been the doyen of gourmands.

Shame on you, Korea.

And bite me.

Yeah...what the hell...who are they to come up with a catchy phrase in order to help bolster tourism and impressions!!!

It's much better than the catchphrases I've heard of for other countries in Asia:

1) "Come for the hoes, stay for the Euro-Trash!"

2) "Now only killing 10 human rights activists per day!"

3) "Give me money biatch!"

4) "15 days bomb attack free!"

5) "You were once our colonial masters, now our people do incredibly rediculous things in order to earn pennies from you!"

6) "What, some drunk Korean adjoshi looked at you funny and called you a 'foreigner'...well....I'm gonna cut your frackin' head off and televise it biatch!"

As time goes on (it's been a long, long time) I feel myself getting sicker and sicker of their bullsh*t. By "their" I mean most Koreans that I (a) come into contact with (b) read about or (c) hear about.

The point is, mate, that it's an empty phrase because they are not doing any of the things they need to do to make it a reality.

Any, prey tell, what nation states, in reality, do what they say?

Korea is fine. Koreans are generally nice...some aren't. Perhaps, Mack the Knife needs to look into the mirror for the answer to his problems?

All I can think of is that it's about time that Koreans caught on to fact that they can use Seoul as a pun when advertising Korea. That's all it frackin' is so lighten up.

I remember when I too wore rose-colored glasses. You will snap out of it, eventually. That's just how it goes. Sorry to "bum you out, dude."

Those are all bad things that happen in america, but it's not false advertising. America is the home of the free. Free and messed up, but definitely free. Some are brave, not all. But that is a song, and a very old on at that, it's not an advertising slogan for tourism. Different thing entirely.

Do what they say? That's a lot broader concept. This is a tourist based advertising slogan, and it's annoying becuase it's sums up Korea nicely. All surface, no substance. They think a slogan is going to make tourism happen. What they don't want to face is that thier deeply rooted xenophobia and the way it affects how they treat foreigners, in the law, as cops, and in general, is the thing that prevents Korea from every being the soul of anything except for Koreans. That and the appalling infrastructure and design of Seoul as a city.

Korea is not fine.

you are right it isn't referring to tourism but heck, people risk their lives to cross the borders into america based on that exact slogan. America prides itself on Democracy etc and while I believe if you do not like America then make a difference or get out.... cuz it is a great land..

BUT tourism vs. immigration? who really cares if they hype themselves up to get some tourists? it doesn't hurt anyone does it??

But you have people leave their homelands and come to America hoping for a piece of the Dream and a genuine belief inAmerica the Great only to have their businesses burned in riots or your ancestors enslaved and lynched etc... now that is another story.

Soul of Asia isn't anything to get rattled about...its like testosterone driven football players talking smack about how they are the greatest team or player etc....

No one in the state I am living in of Korean Origin seems to be waving the Korean flag announcing "I am the Soul of Asia"
I sure as heck am not walking around with that mentality...If my peeps want to have a sense of pride well then let it be... but if they go around lynching all non Koreans or putting them in internment camps, then I will start getting pissy and embarrased.
