I got a quote from a travel agent or a trip to Thailand for the last two weeks of January Thai Airways,

1 TG 659 SU 21JAN INCHEON - BANGKOK 0950 1340
2 TG 656 SA 3FEB BANGKOK - INCHEON 2315 0625*1
FARE:\630,000 + TAX\96,000 = \726,000

I live in Busan, so I dont know why they quoted me a price for Incheon. Do I have to fly from there? Is this a good rate? Seems a bit hugh but not too bad.

Also, She quoted me $70 a night for a hotel. That sounds really high! How can I stay for cheaper? I cant afford 70 a night for 2 weeks. I was hoping for a super cheap place, like 10 bucks a night hahah.

probablly your travel dates dont match what Thai flies from Busan, heck just grab a domestic flight for 60k and grab a bus over to ICN though you would have to fly up the nite before though.

Fare seems right for the time of year. Jan is just about peak season. Outbound flight is my fav, 659 gets you to BKK in plenty of time if you want to get out on a night train to somewhere or grab a domestic flight. If you dont like red-eyes coming back see about TG 628, leaves 10:30A, stops in HK and gets in at 7:45P. I've flown from Samui at 7AM in plenty of time to grab that one

$70 for a hotel is crap unless you are looking for high dollar. Most places in BKK will run around $20 for a decent place depending on where you want to stay

Don't bother booking hotels prior to going to Thailand. It is soooooo easy to find cheap accommodation while you are there. You don't have to do anything except appear lost for 5 minutes and people will be falling over themselves trying to get you to stay at their place.
Seriously, just get your flight, get there, and everything else will take care of itself.

How can I get the hotel? Just find something when I get there? How do I look for it?

Sounds like your first time in Thailand! When you arrive at the airport, get yourself in a taxi to Ko San Road. Its about a 20 minute ride from the airport. The place is teeming with hotels, hostels and backpacker accommodation. Once you're there, everything will become clear. Enjoy! Thailand is the best place in the world, I'm sure you'll have a ball. And really, don't worry!!!!!

Oh and one more thing. If its a regular taxi, tell the driver you're only paying half of his original quoted price.

I think that ticket price is a little high. I'm paying quite a bit less for X-Mas week. Sale prices are not usually issued for Thai airways until the month of and sometimes not until a couple weeks before the flight. Hang on to the reservation but wait to pay as long as possible. My travel agent is terrific and will wait until the last moment for the cheapest price.

Don't take a taxi. There are buses going directly to Khao San Road or where ever you want to go. Just ask the information desk. Avoid anyone asking you "Where are you going?"

Also, don't book a hotel room through a travel agent....they will probably book you into a place that is popular with Koreans and has Korean food. You don't need a reservation (many places do not accept them anyway). On Khao San Road there are loads of guesthouses...just go in and ask to see a room...if you like it then stay...if not...go to the next one. If you are uncomfortable going without a reservation, some of the guesthouse do accept reservations. Rambuttri Village Inn is clean, has a swimming pool and costs less than $10. http://www.khaosan-hotels.com/
This is also a good sitefor bookings on KSR and other areas such as Sukhumvit. http://www.travelfish.org/accommodation_profile/thailand/bangkok_and_surrounds/bangkok/khao_san_road/all/846/1?ord=0

Have fun!

This is just a guess, but with the new airport Khao San is a lot farther than 20 minutes.

You should n't have to fly from ICN. There are only a few flights a week from Gimhae to Bangkok though. I you aren't flying on the right day, you can't get there. Travel agents always try to route us through ICN. Just tell them you are only iterested in PUS, thank you very much.

Yes, you are right, She gave me a flight option from Busan. Its actually cheaper by 50,000. Go figure. But she said there is a waiting list. What the heck does that mean?

waiting list means the flight is booked but you are on a list for cancelations. Many Koreans make multiple reservations then wait for the cheapest one to come through and pay for that one then cancel the rest at the last minute.

If you want the sure thing then take the ICN flight, the price isnt that high for the season and you can get a ticket. Jan its very hard to get flights out because the kiddies are out of school and what flights you can get are expensive

That means that, as of now, all the seats have been reserved. Because you can make a reservation and don't have to pay for the ticket right away a number of people make reservations and then cancel prior to paying for the ticket. If you are on the waiting list, when a person cancels their reservation and you are next on the list you can get a seat.

When demand is extremely high they will not even put you on a waiting list. In most cases I have been able to get a ticket after being put on the waiting list. Keep checking with your agent every few days.

Hey I am going to Thailand too. I have been waitlisted since 1st December but both my outbound & inbound flights are now confirmed, so I am going into Seoul tomorrow night to pay for the tickets: about 700k, also in January, & with Thai Air.

The Suk11 website has twin aircon rooms for 650 baht & website directions & photos on using taxis from the new airport. Shouldn't cost more than 350 baht to get to Sukhumvit Road or KSR. Cancel the $70 a night hotel room except on your 1st or last night. Other posters are correct. Hotels & guesthouses are everywhere in Thailand. Just book or call a day or 2 in advance.
