Hey everyone this is Greg. I've been in Seoul for 3 years as a teacher here, dont write on this form much. I went to Pusan for vacation this past week which is a great town and if you can you should go at least once. I want everyone to know that we went to a bar in the university area called New York New York, and they treated us really badly. I dont want to gety into the huge story here, just a warning to all those people looking for a good place to dance and just hang out, stay away from this bar. They are the most racist bunch of people I've seen since I've been in this country which means our night was bad. So if anyone is going to pusan, my advice and I guess my warning too...dont waist your time in this bar find a better one which wont be hard.

Strange, there was a bar in the downtown area of Busan called "New York, New York" that had a sign that said "Foreigners No Enter" because of supposed run-ins with GI's awhile back (haven't checked lately). But that bar wasn't located in the university area so I guess the name "New York, New York" has a certain anti-foreigner ring to it.

EVERYONE PLEASE READ, in caps no less -- what a fatuous & arrogant attention-getter for something of minimal interest to the great majority of readers here.

ironically enough...if they're so anti-foreigner why don't they call their bars seoul, seoul or something.

everything is for a reason in this world. if the bar treated you badly that was wrong. But think, why??? Maybe because they've had a continous run of bad experiences with westerners before?
It may be that teachers get tarred with the same brush as rowdy G.I's. Or it may be, as i've often observed, that westerners tend to invade a place as if they were masters of the universe, and show little sensitivity or respect for locals.
The number of times I've noticed westerners go into a place with a demanding, aggressive or whining attitude is too many to count.

I do that.

I go into bars all over Seoul, lift my sword into the air and yell, "BY THE POWER OF GREYSKULL!" After some special effects, I jiggle my pecs and walk out.

First of all "schwa" whatever that is, I dont give a flying crap what you think, if you dont want to read the post then dont. I put it in caps because i dont want foreingner giving their business and money to them. Im trying to be helpful idiot and if you want to be an a**hole then dont reply at all. And for the other guy, my friends and I arent GI's we are teachers, and I have friends who are GI's so I'd watch your mouth if I was you before I shut it for you. For the rest of you...the story is, my friend and I bought these two korean girls a beer and one of my female friends went over to break the ice and then called me over about a minute later to talk to them together. After about another min. 3 "waiters" who are obviously securuty guards and there was lots of them, came over to the girls and "told" them, ont asked told them to move to the other side of the bar, and they said that's ok in korean 2 times, the "head guy" who probably makes 2000 won per hour, still made them move, and I said what are doing (not in those words) and he didnt answer, so I had to think quickly about what just happend here, which was obviously flat out hardcore racism on his part, so now im angry not mad angry because only dogs get mad, and I demended to know what he thought he was doing basically yelling at him so he pushed me, and of course being a black belt in taekwondo, im going to defend myself so I pushed him back and im bigger and stronger than him and i pushed him really hard and he hit the floor and i said it's racist a**holes like you which make foreingners hate korea and one of the many reasons they dont come back. We were looking for a good dance bar and to have a few drinks and you and you crew were watching us all night, yeah we had a great time, and we walked out and didnt pay the 50,000 won bill and we're never going back there again. And...ive only been to pusan once so im ont sure what area the bar was in, it was the only trasfer stop from green to orange line whatever area that is. The other bars were great though in that area so if u go to pusan check those out but not NEW York New York.

Oh, was that directed at me and my post about the confusion about the location of the place? Quite the overreaction. Well, at least I can see where you get your anger issues from.

EDIT: Uh, yeah, that is the bar in Somyon, not in the "university area" (hard to mix up downtown with a uni area) and yes there were some run-ins with soldiers awhile back which led to a bad attitude from the bar staff. It doesn't excuse their attitude, but you seem to have one yourself.

We didnt do anything wrong and he started the fight, and i finished, if a pushing match is even a fight. Maybe i should have walked away but i couldnt not this time, ive walked away too many times in this counrty and he was the last straw. Korean people dont get treated like that in Canada maybe we should start

Then it was simply a case of the staff being just as ignorant as they were a few years back. For whatever reasons precipitated it in the past, they clearly don't like foreigners at all these days.
