Really? You didn't answer mine Gopher.

Doesn't look too good y'know.

With no help from your end of things it might even lead some here to form some pretty no-so "far fetched" conclusions.

Damn..where is John McCain when you need him. He could sing a song for all of us. "Bomb bomb bomb bomb Iran." I guess he's too busy campaigning for president.

*forgive the sarcasm please*

Yeah, well, if that doesn't work out, try viewing the film The Deer Hunter for some virtual reality.

Maybe deNiro can make a man out of you yet.

In the meantime, I suggest you PM ddeubel. The two of you can buddy up on your re-butt-als for the next forum thread.

You're like a caricature of a stereotype.

Set to the tune of The Beach Boys "Barbara Ann," eh?

One thing you can be certain about: real combat vets are seldom jingoistic. Along these lines, you could construe Obama's remarks on Pakistan recently as hawkish too.

I'm not sure who'd make a better all-around president yet, but I'm confident that McCain is the most well-versed on foreign policy of the whole bunch, especially now that Biden and Richardson have dropped out.

I put on my caricature costume only when dealing with posters who are willfully ignorant of foreign policy matters.

Yes, commonly heard on radios after the Iranians seized our embassy; very popular in 1979. McCain did not invent this.

Gopher,

Thanks, I didn't know that. Where did it come from specifically?

SM,

That is true, McCain has the foreign policy and military background. As you said in another thread, he needs someone to even himself out IF he won the nomination. I don't agree with him, but can respect him. I can't say the same for Romney, Guiliani or Fred Thompson. I like Huckabee, but am unsure about him.

General comment: I personally think it was in bad taste for McCain, even jokingly to make that comment. Yes, everyone makes mistakes, but as a candidate for president, you don't want to make mistakes that can possibly haunt you if you win the general election. It would be very easy to twist that video if he did.

There has long been a genre of this nonsense. Morning radio shows can be quite belligerent; they reflect grass-roots belligerency in American politics. McCain was recognizing that this song and those like it appeal to many Americans. Bad taste or not, it was not necessarily bad politics in an election year. Was McCain not responding to his audience, a veterans' organization, on this issue, by the way? Look again.

I think this recreates the original version, Vince Vance and the Valiants, set to new imagery.

Wikipedia wrote:
The song was later parodied as "Bomb Iran" by Vince Vance and the Valiants; 1979 written during the Iran hostage crisis.

"Bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran.
Bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb, bomb Iran!
Let's take a stand, bomb Iran.
Our country's got a feelin'.
Really hit the ceilin', bomb Iran.
Bomb bomb bomb, bomb Iran."
Gone to a mosque,
Gonna throw some rocks.
Tell the ayatollah,
Gonna put you in a box! and
bomb Iran. Bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb, bomb Iran!
Our country's got a feelin'.
Really hit the ceilin', bomb Iran.
Bomb bomb bomb, bomb Iran."

I agree the context could be misunderstood, but in an election, it doesn't matter much. Like I said, things could be twisted (and are regularly as we've seen lately with the Democrats) to look different then they are. If I were a poltiical advisor to McCain(which is kind of the view I'm taking here), I would have hit the roof (as I hope they did).

McCain already responded...

Quote:
McCain had defended "Bomb Iran," saying: "Lighten up and get a life." Asked if his choice of songs was insensitive, McCain said, according to the Associated Press: "Insensitive to what? The Iranians?"

McCain's "Bomb Iran" Was Anti-Muslim?

igotthisguitar:

Whether or not someone other than Iranian Revolutionary Navy personnel broadcast that threat is immaterial. The fact remains that they knowingly intercepted a small convy of American military vessels routinely passing through the Straits and buzzed them. That in and of itself is sufficient cause to react to it as a provocation--which is what the gunners almost did.

But don't hesitate to dissemble as you diddle with your guitar, Pete Seeger, Jr.
