Back to the tv coverage, they should be ashamed of themselves if they do not even show the men's 100 metres, probably the number one event (in terms of sheer prestige) in the whole Olympics.

So, what are the odds? Pretty low, I guess. There's that very large woman, almost managing to lift her whole bodyweight to show again and again on all three channels.

However you count it they're back in 4th and well-deserved. Jang Mi Ran was awesome winning their latest gold.

they're still showing badminton.

Badminton!!

Theres been 101 athletics events today- of that they've only shown the 20km walking race.

For pity's sake. I think the producers need to be notified of what real sport consists of.

OK, so my cynicism was a little misplaced.

Thanks MBC for showing me that, the most ridiculous 100 metre race I have ever seen! Usain Bolt made the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th fastest men alive look as if they were running on quicksand.

He hit the world record even though he basically stopped running 30m before the finish!

Angry Swede throws down medal and quits
Thu 14 Aug, 02:52 PM

BEIJING (Reuters) - Swedish wrestler Ara Abrahamian threw down his Olympic bronze medal in protest on Thursday after his bid for greco-roman gold was ended by a decision denounced by the Swedish coach as "politics".

Abrahamian took the bronze from around his neck during the medal ceremony, stepped from the podium and dropped it in the middle of the wrestling mat then walked off.

"I don't care about this medal. I wanted gold," he said.

This guy had his medal revoked by the IOC today:

Phelps is now in 5th place overall all by himself. Incredible.

It seems like this Olympics you have to set a World Record or at least an Olympic Record even to have a hope. Amazing performances everywhere. Well, I say amazing, so far as I can tell, not being able to watch very many of them...you bastards KBS.

Netizens have come up with some cruel but funny nicknames for Korean athletes:-

Choi Min Ho, the 50kg class judo gold medalist has been dubbed "North Korean child".

Nam Hyun Hee, the women's individual foil silver medalist, at a mere 5'1" and 45kg, is "Peanut".

Last but not least, Jang Mi Ran is "Princess Fiona"!

Dude, check out this poor bastards story:

Emmons misses China's Qiu Jian wins
By The Associated Press
Posted Saturday, August 16, 2008 6:25 PM ET

BEIJING (AP) - For the second straight Olympics, Matt Emmons has lost a gold medal with a stunning mistake on the final shot.

Matt Emmons fired at a wrong target and lost a sure gold medal in Athens, but it led to meeting his future wife. The American was in front Sunday and needed only to come somewhere close to the center of his target. But he fired poorly on his final attempt, giving the gold to China's QIU Jian.

Four years ago, Emmons had a big lead in this same event, then shot at the wrong target on his final shot and ended with no medal at all.

He dropped to fourth this time. Yuriy SUKHORUKOV of Ukraine won the silver and Rajmond Debevec took the bronze.

I just saw the men's 4x100 swimming freestyle relay on YouTube. Man, what a race. My hat's off to Lezak, Phelps, Jones and Weber-Gale. Sporting events don't get much more exciting than that.

I've just finished watching some women's beach volleyball (China vs Austria). The crowd was trying to sing along to 'Minnie the Moocher'. Absolutely hysterical, listening to a large crowd of mostly Chinese trying to sing the chorus of 'Hidehidehidehi/hodehodehodeho'.
