Anyways American and British culture are the strongholds I guess in terms of Drama and comedic productions, the op said he was tired of american culture - what are the alternatives outside these two, I wonder?
is there some new New Zealand comedy gold we're all missing out on? |

Of course, they did become ever so famous when they teamed up with the Americans. |
They were famous before pretty much everywhere before the Americans found out about them. It's just that Americans like to think that you become famous once they find out about you. |

I don't think so, it's fodder for the lowest common denominator, wasn't Big Brother the first of them - in the Uk ?
I recently saw Generation Kill - whatever your thoughts are on iraq it's an excellent production ! |

Oh, I knew about them way before they got rich in America. There's a reason they chose to go mainstream in the states, though. Their fame grew enormously, as well as their bankbooks. |

When I look at the list of movies playing at the cinema, I just want to vomit. The intellectual level is so low that I wonder if there isn't some kind of government conspiracy to keep the masses dumb.
Jay Z was told by his record company some years ago that he needed to "dumb down" his songs.
Does "dumb" sell? In rap music, rappers like KRS1 who try to talk about relatively intelligent things don't sell as many cds.
In the U.S., there is also a lot of money and attention put into professional sports. If you watch a U.S. football match, you'll be amazed at how emotional the fans and announcers get and how knowledgeable they are about the teams and players. "What a waste of time." I think. Imagine if these people put this kind of energy into fixing problems in their country and abroad.
Oh, and everybody connected with professional sports makes money off this. Joe six pack pays the bill.
For the powers that be, the idea is to keep the public distracted with nonsense while the Wall Street bankers rip them off and companies like Monsanto and BP screw up the country. |
