| I'm sorry to read about that. The justice system here is somewhat broken. It's not new. If you had a lawyer, it might have been a different story, but you're not a Korean, and you didn't get a lawyer. This happens in the Arabian Gulf. Korea is the Asian Gulf, so to speak. |

I guess that the majority of apologists here are:
A: Non-Korean citizen of Korean descent (ie gyopo).
B: Foreigner married to a Korea citizen.
C: Foreigner with no ties to Korea, but is trying too hard to be accepted.
D: All or some of the above.
There are probably very few actual Koreans on here, because if there were they would be more honest. My wife loves her country, but she is 100 times more honest than the Dave's Apologentsia about Korea and it's inherent faults. |
You forgot E, the largest portion of people who don't spend their free time bitching about Korea: Neither fresh off the boat kids who suffer from culture shock nor bitter old men. |

I'm going to go out on a limb here, but I'm guessing that in any country that if you don't LWYRUP, odds are things won't go your way when it comes to the police and the courts. |

You have my sympathies. Takes me back over a decade when I was assaulted and punched in the face in the Kwanghwamun area by a guy I got into an altercation with (wouldn't stop pestering me for English practice type scenario--a very prosiac annoying experience in Korea).
To cut a long story short my employer (it was the British Council) contacted the police and this incredibly incompetent detective turned up, conducted a perfunctory interview--showing no interest in catching my attacker--and then, like some episode in a sick nightmare, HE proceeded to harass me for English practice and started randomly appearing at my workplace!!! The salt was well and truly rubbed onto my sore jaw.
Some posters suggested the lawyer route. Defo not cheap in Korea. You might try the 'HELP CENTER FOR FOREIGNERS' that used to be located in City Hall next to Kyoubuk Palace for advice.
Good luck eh? |

Ah, now that someone has bumped this up, I guess I should give an update to the whole situation.
First and foremost, I received a lot of invaluable advice here, so thanks for that.
To keep it brief, things were coming to a head, I was in contact with lawyers (well, two lawyers) and a local newspaper, you know, to get it 'out there'.
So naturally I was up in arms about why the court would send the so-called result to my vice-principal, and that I wanted a copy of said result ASAP. You know, because these issues are crucial.
It turned out that there has been no court result at all, and that my school (VP) was lying about the whole thing. Wow, talk about losing face on my side.
For the record, I work at three schools, but as luck would have it, my main school is the only one with a total ***** for a VP, and it's caused a lot of unnecessary stress and turmoil. I feel like an idiot for not picking up on his lies sooner, but then again, perhaps I am too gullible. It's definitely not a 'Koreans are assholes!' thing, because I have absolutely no problems at all with every other Korean I work with.
So yeah, there has been no court result, it's been a long time, I doubt I will ever see a result (as I am clearly in the right, and not a local, so who cares?) - thanks for all the replies and support, I guess one can't truly win, but I am not even sure what I was competing for to begin with.
As for my hand, I might need another operation, luckily with medical it is cheap, and the surgeon and nurses are totally racist so I get priority treatment over Koreans.
And as far as a foreigner 'winning' when it comes to 'blood money', I would not hold my breath over it. |
