| Nashville is also no longer more. Can't say I'm really surprised since that place was almost always dead, but it had a nice atmosphere. |
The Nashville is gone! Oh my God, the tears roll down my cheeks! The Nashville was our starter place for years. The cheese burger was good and they played movies on the projector TV all day. Downed many a pint there with much good company.
Please, don't tell me the Seoul Pub is gone! |
Seoul Pub is still around. Nashville had horrible microwave burgers before they closed down/within the last year. I liked your post in the other thread about Itaewon. I enjoy hearing about that old school grittiness. I love places like that. Unfortunately, there's little of that around these days. |

I am wondering how long it will be before Itaewon becomes like everywhere else. Soon they will push out the shops that peddle crap to foreigners. Then the street vendors will be seen as competition to those paying high rent and be forced out. I am sure it will become too expensive for What the Book to operate, and they will be replaced. Then we will just have yet another street that looks like your neighborhood.
About that time, hooker/gay hills will be raised (has been scheduled for about 4 years from now). The international food stores will be pushed out due to excessive rent.
Everything will change. |
i'm not so sure about the international food stores. they charge exorbitant prices on all their goods. i think if push came to shove they could stay in business if they cut costs by not supporting their entire extended family and friends of family. |

Instead of supporting their family and friends, they should cut costs to support the lives of their customers? |

they can do whatever they want. i was merely commenting that that might be the only way they could stay in business.
as for me, as much as i enjoy second cousin timmy twice-removed, i personally would not house and feed him if it's my business and my immediate family on the line. |

the original Nashville (the basement pub) has been gone for at least 3 maybe 4 years now. In the day that was THE place to get a steak, burger, pork chops and sish kebabs. No microwave burgers or crap like that. Guy who ran it opened it in the 80s he was ex-USFK, one of the first foreigners to open a place when he married a local. In fact he got a lot of grief when he had a sign saying "No Koreans allowed" he had a problem for a while when locals would come in and get into fights with the GI's. who came in
Bet he's like Gunther who ran Seoul Pub and opened 3 Alley in that he's retired and living down in Pattaya |

If you are looking for grit, China is the place to be. It is much like Korea was 20 years ago, but without the insanity. |
