[My 2 Cent]

Well, the thrust of my arguement stemmed from the discussion about the RAI documentry in Fallujah, in the fact the US media has failed misrably in reporting outside of let's say a colonist's point of view. It not only has failed to make its government accountable, it has also lent a helping hand, and continues to be complicit in making US governments achive its policy objectives -- whether ghostwritten articles by CIA operatives, suppressing information, but mostly campaigns/leaks of misinformation, and cynical media distortion and manipulation favoring long term stategic policy objectives or clients (Middle-East -- Israel/Palestine, Saudi, Jordan, Iraq). The role of corporate ownership and its corrupt relationship with government and policy makers should be examined also.

The UK has some serious issues with its media also. All main newspapers there are essentially conservative, with the exception of the Guardian which is run by a public trust and the privately owned Mirror, and independent. The corporate monopolistic one-sided nature of the the press has led to a conservative shift in political discourse over the past thirty years, on both sides of the Atlantic.

In saying that, British public support for this war was considerably lower than US support during war (61% to 75% in america), and was given very reluctantly (Blair/Powell pushing Bush for UN route in run-up) even with the understanding of WMD existance, and 50 pages of dodgy intelligence dossiers in the run up to the war. I think UK is differnet scenrio -- Blair had just enough support to carry through his war agenda on conditon of finding WMD -- his public support and credibilty quickly collapsed mid '03 after the weapons failed to turn up, and he hasnt recovered since.
