folks think about it. whorehouses cut off access to foreigners, and foreigners in turn complain FOR access, then that is pretty much saying that you are in favor of prostitution and want to see it continue so that you can patronize.

If a legal and NON-degrading to women place of business does the same thing, by all means, I would be outraged with you. but to be indignant about not being allowed to sleep with hookers does not seem to me like a big loss.

It's not, but it's pretty frickin' insulting to be told that "you are so dirty, we have to protect even the lowest levels of our society's people from you."

Dutchie...come on now,

I was merely joking around mate. Bend a little, have laugh, its good for your health. Laughing

Dan, I don't think that because someone complains about being denied access to a prostitution area it means they are for prostitution.
In this case it was a question of too much time on one's hands, culture shock and a percieved slight...oh wait I mean it was a question of "principle", the rest of us, not fighting for this principle are "lax", "complacent" or have no "guts" according to Sgt Freedom there.
but he does seem to have done it based on some sort of confused principle.

Too much time on my hands? With two little kids around the house and a wife who works fulltime, I wish.
Culture Shock? Wow! It finally hit me after eight years in the country!

Dan, if they simply put signs on the windows of the businesses saying foreigners are not allowed I'd have no problem at all with it. The only problem I have is when they think can forbid us from city blocks. These banners were hanging over the street. And frankly I'm quite impressed with the media reaction. They told it like it is and the banners came down.

Hey 8 years in, congrats dutchie!
Your a veteran.
But, after 8 years here you still chose to protest a sign that said foreigners were not allowed in a prostitution area?
Since you have 2 kids and a wife and you both work full time, don't you have better things to do with your time then protest this perceived slight to your ethnicity?
Don't get me wrong mate, the sign was stupid, as stupid as the idea behind it. It was not however a form of oppression by any stretch of the imagination and any one who thinks it was oppression needs to check out what the word really means.
Anyway, you "won" and the sign came down, now foreigners can wander the city block where the prostitutes work and still get no "service"....Are you going for a stroll then?

The funny thing is, they only closed a tiny percentage of the Gireum/Miasamgeori area. The Texas is off limits, but walk down any of the other streets...

(Miari Texas was my location since day one)

Oh Homer, how come a smart guy such as you doesnt understand why they're so angry over the banner?

It's becase we North Americans can go anywhere and do anything we want. When we cant go anywhere and do anything we want, we throw a tantrum and vow to show these backwards locals how we run a decent society back home.

You know the society, right? It's the one everyone left so they could go experience the real world.

Indeed WB... Laughing

I do understand the reaction to the "banner". I also find it quite funny and out of place.
But you are right, us N.Ams can go anywhere and do anything and complain about it all to boot.
