Why I can't drink Korean beer (even though I'd like to)

Korean beer isn't great and neither is Budweiser, but you should realize that unless you're drinking black market Bud, the Bud here is brewed under licence by OB. Not saying real US Bud - and, truth by known the real original is a fantastic lager from the Czech Rep - is better, but the Korean version is a Koreanized version of a mediocre brew.

I dont like Korean beer but it doesnt stop me from drinking huge amounts of it. I try to buy Hite prime as I find it to be the least offensive of the lot. One thing I notice though is the different hangovers I get from drinking bottles/cans versus when I drink the big smoking 3000ccs.

I can drink bottled beer all night and I might feel like ass in the morning but nothing too bad. But if I have been drinking draft all night I always feel right terrible in the morning. My stomache gets the worst of it... feels a bit like the pregnancy scene in the first aliens movie. Terrible...but there is no way I can give up drinking. Is there?

The clubs I go to, it's usually around 4,000. But I never buy bud. I usually go for the 8,500 Hoegaarden. I've also been known to splurge on a couple of Guiness stout for 10,000. Yeah, my wallet is often much lighter.... Embarassed

Yeah, Bud is the way I go as well as far value/$ goes. Not the best but does the trick.

As for the Korean beer, its not that its crap (it is) but I would swear Im drinking the same sh*t no matter what the label says. If they were at least honest

I was trying to remember the name of a local beer that gave me a migraine with just one can.

Oh yeah OB Blue. Never again.

All local beers are fully capable of inducing headaches. They should come with a warning on label:

"Side effects may include: green apple splatters, piercing headaches, stomach grumbles, and the purchasing of hard liquor to get the sh*t taste out of your mouth"

i have a theory about the skunky bottled beer i find here (about 1 in 3 bottles i buy):
if beer is exposed to direct sunlight, it begins to ferment in a bad way, hence the need for brown bottles to minimize this risk... with soju, i don't imagine this is a problem because of the higher alcohol content and overall nastiness... but don't bother bringing your skunky bottle of bud to the bartender for a new one because guess what? it smells exactly like every korean beer! my new strategy is to agree to pay for the bad beer, on the condition that the bartender drink it himself... maybe that way they'll learn something about bad beer and hangovers... i only drink beer from cans in korea from now on...

Yes. No. And, no.

Indeed, sunlight is the guilty party in turning an otherwise perfectly normal beer into road kill. It has nothing to do with fermentation, though. It has to do with the hops in beer, which is why nothing ever happens when you expose other liquors to sunlight. No hops = no skunk flavor.

Skunked beer does not have any nasty effects on your body, and frankly, I like a good skunked Tsing Tao every once in a while. Reminds me of college.
