I never really looked at anything concerning India's armed forces before. Here's what I found:
Quote: |
The Indian Armed Forces is the second-most numerous military in the world, after the Peoples Liberation Army. Over a million strong, the Indian Paramilitary Forces form the largest paramilitary force in the world. The Indian Army maintains the world's third largest active force... |

Why did you say fourth? Just asking. |

I was just musing over your claim that Iraq had the fourth largest army in the world.....I knew it to be a physical impossibility and was wondering out loud which countries could have larger armies.
China, Usa, Russia, India, Pakistan.. Iraq would be far down the list.

It was once said to be the fourth largest army in the world, but on 23 May 2003 Paul Bremer, the US occupation administrator of Iraq, issued an order dissolving it... |

In 1990-91, Iraq had the fourth largest standing army. After it was badly damaged, it no longer was so. |

Note how painful the process is for them to acknowledge that the U.S. govt was not picking on "a little boy" in Iraq (or elsewhere, for that matter).
In their book, the United States is purely a bully and a coward in foreign policy. |

I like how you refer to America as an aggrieved do-gooder. It's quaint. |

Newsflash guys...just because one american dumbass says something doesnt make it a fact. All of your links and posts are to quotes by dumbass americans.
Lets break this down so even you morons can understand
China 2,250,000 active troops(ranked first)
Indian The Indian Army is a well-trained and well-equipped military service, with a troop strength of over a million
Russia 960,600 (Ranked 5th)
Pakistan active force of 550,000
America 485,500
So with Russia ranked 5'th in the world you are trying to tell me that Iraq has/had more troops than Russia?
Remember we are talking about armies here, not militia, fanatic suicide squads or pressganged civilians!
Please do a little more research than just posting up some moronic american generals stupidity |

I believe I said, much earlier, and elsewhere, that America is far from perfect. Indeed, on the page just before this one, I said the U.S. is no saint. The U.S. govt without a doubt sees itself as a do-gooder, as do many in the U.S. who know no better. The U.S. conducts business (good and bad), makes mistakes, and helps and hurts people, just like any other comparable nation-state in history, no more, no less.
So learn to read. Or at least read lips.
And I know you're a girl. Your "mommy" comment was not a denial.

I'll make you an offer: I'll promise to do more research if you promise to stop trolling.
And no matter how much research I do, the result on the relative size of Hussein's army in 1990-1991 will come out fourth largest in the world. So pick another issue. |

from global security.org
Iraqi military history summary
Quote: |
As a result of the Iran-Iraq War, Iraq was obliged to extend its search for arms in 1981. By the time the war entered its eighth year in September 1987, Iraq had become the world's biggest single arms market. In addition to its purchases from the Soviet Union and France, Iraq sought to buy armaments from China, the Federal Republic of Germany (West Germany), Italy, Brazil, Poland, Czechoslovakia, and Egypt, among others. The United States Arms Control and Disarmament Agency estimated in 1987 that Iraq had imported about US$24 billion worth of military equipment during the period from 1981 to 1985.
The regular Army in mid-1990 consisted of more than 50 divisions, additional special forces brigades, and specialized forces commands composed of maneuver and artillery units. Although most divisions were infantry, the Army had several armored and mechanized divisions. Some armored units had a small amount of modern Western and Soviet equipment, but most of the Army had 1960s-vintage Soviet and Chinese equipment. Training and equipment readiness of Army units varied greatly, ranging from good in the divisions that existed before the Iran-Iraq war, to poor in the largely conscript infantry formations. |
From globalpolicy.com:
Quote: |
There has also been a gigantic increase in size. As the soldier-politician era ended, the era of the colossal army began. In just over a decade, the armed forces grew tenfold, from 50,000 in 1968 to 430,000 in 1980. Their ratio to the population rose from six per 1,000 to 31 per 1,000. This rapid growth showed the regime's stability and also its grand regional designs.
The Iraq-Iran war brought the nation, the military included, turmoil and change. Oil wealth, world and regional support, popular patriotism and official nationalism sustained the Iraqi war effort. The army grew to roughly a million, excluding the paramilitary organisations of the party militia (the Popular Army) or the 150,000 of the Kurdish tribal mercenary units, the Battalions of National Defence. |
There you go grotto, a MILLION in the army. So stop telling us americans we don't know what we're talking about. Look in the mirror DUMB ASS.
Link where Grotto is shown he's just another stereotypical ugly Canadian

It was during the late 80's until 2003 the worlds 4th biggest, only beaten by USA, Soviet Union and China. |
