I really don't agree with this. How do uniforms sexualise girls?? The only example I can think of is the Japanese style with the really short skirts, but it's the strange men that turned the uniform into a sexual object.

I wore a uniform from 5th year of primary school all the way up and I never had a problem with it. Uniforms in my country tend to be pretty sober: knee length or longer skirts and a blouse for the girls and shirt and slacks for boys.

I found it took the hassle out of deciding what to wear every day and it put everyone on an equal footing. I can just imagine the girls would be trying to outdo each other all the time if they were allowed to wear anything they wanted.

I should point out I'm only referring to certain uniforms. In Korea some uniforms look like they're straight out of a bukkake movie and others are more plain.

But let's face it--on average, the schoolgirl has become a sexual archetype right in there with librarian and stewardess.

really? The uniforms I see around here are down right dowdy. Must be because I'm out in the Jeollas...?

I think kids should be conscripted when they turn 18 and forced into military service, then spend their time enforcing mandatory school uniforms as part of a harsh and ongoing cycle of the One World government.

Actually, girls do get a choice between pants or skirts. But the vast vast vast majority opt for the skirt. I inquired once and they said it was for 2 reasons. One was to impresse the boys and two was that everyone else wore them and if you wore pants you'd be branded a loser.

Also, alot of the students prefer wearing unifroms.

I teach elementary school and they have to wear uniforms. I think it's the only school in this city that requires it. The girls are provided both skirts and pants. As far as I'm aware, there is no policy of choosing one or the oher. I'm looking at a class now and some are wearing skitys and some are wearing pants.

Sorry...I don't know about the history of the Korean uniform....

Your elementary may be a private one.

I'm talking about middle and high schools. And yes, they can switch the unifroms from skirts to pants daily, if they wanted. But, I have yet to see a girl in pants (PE pants excluded). Of the 3 years here and all the schools and students I have seen in school or walking the street, I think I've only seen one girl wearing pants as their uniform.

Ive heard this and will confirm with my class of teachers this afternoon.

It's a great debate subject. Another and there was an article in the JoonAng Ilbo a few days ago about it, is hairstyle rules.

Apparently Korean teachers/schools can legally enforce a short hair style for both girls and boys and many teachers will even cut the hair of students if they think it is too long. Ask your teachers about this one, lots there to debate.

Another good debate topic with teachers is about pledging allegiance. Apparently, to be a legal teacher, you have to pledge an oath to the Korean govt. Some schools just look the other way, if you don't want to but some enforce it and have rejected/fired teachers for it. One guy took it to the supreme court, arguing he only was responsible towards God as a higher authority. He lost and the court upheld his being fired. Another good topic.

It is and it isn't....just figured I'd toss in my view of the topic since it is drastically different from high shcool and middle school. Who cares really? If these kids got to wear what they wanted, they'd look fairly similar...no different than when we were in school. The cliques, the desire...no, the need to fit in....

i think the uniforms is sexualist against the male students (in any country, not just Korea). because females get a choice if they want to wear a skirt or pants. but the males only wear the pants. it's a bit sexualist don't you think?

I think that the uniforms just need to be a little more creative.

They should have different themes for each month. French Maid. Stewardess, Bunny Girl, Cheerleader, Nurse, etc...

That's one thing that could be done. They already force girls to have short hair, so why not de-feminise them even more? I used to date a girl from Hong Kong who wore a uniform in high school. It was this hideous blue-and-white checked jumper. You don't see uniforms like that in freaky fetish porn.

Hong Kong school unis are horrible-looking, but I imagine they're much more well-suited for a hot and humid climate.

Now, regarding the Japanese schoolgirls I saw at the Korean Folk Village last week... that should just be plain illegal in public for anyone under legal age. Shocked Embarassed

Also because if boys go to the strip club after school, they'll get booted out.
