The basic synopsis is that all women go lesbian out of necessity, though some still want a man and that compicates the storyline, and as such, with the required evolution of genetic science and a lift on the ban for cloning, want ANY remaining man dead. Hilarity ensues. Really, though, it is an excellent look at gender roles and how they are essentially social constructs. |
I also recommend this comic. It's a fun read but it also really puts a damper on the "I wish I was the last man on Earth" idea. So imagine ~3 billion men * 90% death rate = 2.7 billion bodies lying around.
There was a show called Sliders about parallel universe Earth hopping. Basically in one episode the group lands on a planet where most of the male population was wiped out due to some virus. (Australia remained mostly unharmed and became the new superpower). Anyhow, the guys in the group got rounded up and sent off to the breeding farms where the men there were basically kept in a gilded stud farm. Women were chosen based on superior characteristics (height, looks, intelligence) to breed with the men. The men couldn't choose and basically had sex as many times as possible during the day. |

i would DENY MY ESSENCE to all but the top-caliber women.
so i would totally be getting my bone on with the smartest and hottest 10 or 15 women within several hundred miles.
so would every other guy with any sense about him.
so, like another poster said, men would have harems and it would be kind of awesome.
it would be like male lions. few male lions, many female lions, and the female lions do all the work and the males eat and bone.

There would be a hell of a lot more car accidents. Except Korea (joking ladies).
Edit: There would be a hell of a lot of abortions.
If scientists could clone humans, then this problem would only last one generation. They could alter the fetus to make it into a boy. |

I believe there would be chaos at first as transportation and food suplies would be disrupted. But eventually the females would get their act together and the remaining men would be hunted down as sex slaves.

Actually something like this has happened in society. Paraguay fought a disastrous war which wiped out the bulk of its male population. After the war, for every living male there were about 8 or 9 women.

I believe polygamy was instituted after that. And much like Thailand today, Paraguay became something of a sex tourist destination for Europeans.

Even Russia females are out numbering males. Lots of Russian men are dying early from drinking, cancer, and crime.
Also near Seattle there are a couple towns built around military bases. The towns have largely been emptied of men by the Iraq war. Many a dateless Microsofty has considered a day trip to see if he can scare up a lonely woman. |
