Hey JungMin,

I have the same model but I bought it about 3 months ago for about 50,000 KRW more. It's a great set especially on the HD channels. For that price it's definitely worth it; no complaints whatsoever. Well maybe the dust that it attracts because of the piano black but you can just wipe it off with the cloth that's included.

I don't think there's a noticeable difference between the 8000:1 and 10000:1 contrast.

With the two sets side by side in Emart, it was very hard to see a difference between the two!! The dude said that the difference is more apparent when used as a computer monitor, which I won't be doing.

Glad to hear that its been treating you well!!!

A really interesting read about "contrast ratio"

http://www.carltonbale.com/2007/01/the-truth-about-inflated-hdtv-contrast-ratios/

Apparently, in real-life situations we can't see over 500:1 in an almost fully darkened room.

Carlton Bale wrote:
One last point that is critical is the impact ambient light has on perceived contrast ratio. Ambient light kills contrast ratio on any and every display. If you make out the beige carpet below your flat panel, your contrast ratio is being negatively impacted. If there is 1 lux of ambient light in the room (i.e. a small candle), the max perceivable contrast ratio is 500:1. A dimly lighted room with 30 lux of lighting would squash the maximum perceivable contrast ratio to 50:1 [2]. Unless you have a completely dark room covered in black velvet, you'll never be able to perceive the high on/off contrast ratios claimed by manufacturers those numbers are meaningless otherwise.

My Plasma has 15000:1 !!! Woohoo Rolling Eyes

Now you just need to go to a store and tell me if you can't see a difference between something with a 500 to 1 contrast ratio, and something that's 15,000 to 1.

I'll bet you can.

I can see the difference.

Try going to www.avsforum.com and post the same tripe you posted here.

TVs and monitors with a low contrast ratio look dull and gray compared to nicer monitors. Colors also look much better when better blacks are present.

Whether or not the true definition of contrast ratio fits or not, you CAN see a difference between something that's rated 500 to 1 compared to something 15,000 to 1.

That is a very wide gap.

above 8,000 to 1, and it becomes difficult.

Well, what a lot of people don't understand is that a high contrast ratio is one of the most important aspects of a good display.

You have blasphemed the holy law of contrast ratios, and shall meet jihad soon!

And I don't drink.

I just bought a 32" Samsung PAVV LCD TV, to be delivered tomorrow. Are you all saying that there in NO English option? What about firmware updates that some posters were talking about? Anyone get a reply from Samsung? Oh, because some people care, the aspect ratio on this model is 10,000:1. Thanks

Price was 1.1M marked down from1.5M. Hi-Mart was running a special with this model, giving away a Samsung HD DVD Player (SV-D597HD) or an Mp3 player. I took the DVD player. The model: LN32R81BD can be found for cheaper online but mine was kind of an impulse buy. But it didn't cross my mind to ask about an English menu... F---!
