| My god the show's host and the band members need a bullet. The retarded monkey-gibber they go on with to hide their lack of proficiency in English is redolent of the pack of middle-school girls I pass each day walking to work. "Oh yeah, wow, unbelievable!" You f#cks have probably been learning English for years, but can't string together a proper sentence and can only mimic words learned from video games. Pathetic. |

I think I covered this phenomenon in my post a few weeks ago about Koreans breaking into random snippets of English when a native speaker passes by. The exaggerated faux-yankee coolness they try to exude and the one-liners they pour out would appear to me to be at best a sign of unsophistication, and at worst retardation. Can you tell me how pointing out the fact that a bunch of people are acting like gibbons on PCP makes me a miserable git? |

Nailed it in one. How is this mock-English any different from mimicking Chinese by doing the "Ching-chong-ching" thing? |

But he's right though. The Korean 'talent' looked like the idiots they are. Why did the producer of the show expose them so much by putting a really talented person next to them???
That little girl is amazing! Wow! I really hope she is given good songs and not just the Whitney/Britney pseudo soul tripe. |

Her voice is unbelievable. She reminds me of a clean sober top of her game Whitney Houston. I had chills. CHILLS! And from such a youngster.
After that it was the usual crap with the idiotic Englishee and whatnot.
Great vid! |
Her rifs are just so natural - not forced like so many nowadays.
If she doesn't get an album deal (in her favor), someone's managing her wrong. |
You know, I bet she's already being managed by a Korean company. You just don't get on those TV shows unless you're connected and/or you bribe someone. |

'Talent', yeah. That's a stretch. They aren't singers but teen idols. There's a huge difference.
Yeah, having a kid sing Whitney Houston songs does not impress me anymore. They are trying to give the impression that this precocious kid will one day be as great as Whitney. I've seen too many people try to pull that trick before. Play the video again and listen to her singing with your monitor turned off. You'll notice that her voice is still very inexperienced and young. She might be great one day, but we'll have to see how he voice changes in the next few years.
In any case, I don't think she should be trying to get a career at this time if she's serious about her singing. She risks ruining her voice before it matures. |

Huh? She's fifteen...not 9. A lot of singers start out young
Charlotte Church
Whitney Houston
Michael Jackson
Countless gospel/soul/Christian singers
Opera singers
Mouseketters
Numerous boy bands
Boa
Utada Hikaru
etc. etc.
It's all about the training. She said she started singing at 4 and was trained by her mom and aunts who are all singers. I'm sure her voice will continue to serve her well.... |

You have to remember that this is in the same vein as 무한도전, which is based on self-deprecating humour. They did a whole show in Japan just to show how not a single person knows about them there. Even people that aren't on that show follow the same humour quite a bit as well.
Take a look at the episode where they invited Thierry Henry on the show, or Kim Yeona. It's all self-deprecating humour. Those that don't get it are the same as those that don't understand Stephen Colbert. There's no point in being cool or using correct English.
Here's them with Thierry Henry:

Korean tv's _not about_ being cool, speaking good English, any of that. Only the guests are made to look good. |
