Oh, and I just checked, J-tech at son-in plaza has 500GB Seagate SATA drives in stock - 113k won.
They did NOT have any Seagate 500gig IDE drives in stock. |

same deal here.
My wife blew some money at Duty Free this past august on some 'branded" wallet that looked the same as her old one but cost a ton more. December is payback when I get my new computer! Yee haw! no more 2.4 celeron chip for me. |

(off topic for this thread and forum) BUT
If you are working at a UNI or public school you can get a samsung card. Apply at your local samsung department store or home plus.
If you are at a hakwon you can get a secured VISA card. Put 1.1 mil in a term deposit (earns about 5% interest) and get a regular Korean credit card with a 1.0 mil limit. Most banks offer this service. USUALLY you have to clear (pay off) the balance every month.
Even if you are NOT working you can get the secured card. |

Let me say that I have no idea what these vid cards would cost normally, but I thought I saw a thread for an 8800 on b/s/t.

That's an 8800 Ultra.....too rich for my blood. I'm after the 8800GT.....should be in Korea soon for around 260-300,000. Reviewers all over the net are raving about it. |

I think it's gonna be closer to the 350,00 - 400,000 price range. In the US, it's running around $330 or so for XFX or EVGA.
Also, it's PCIe 2.0, but you can still use it in 1.1 boards, you just won't get as good of transfer speeds.

Hello Poster,
All you have to do is verify your account with those whom accept foreign cards online (e.g. Gmarket). It took about a week, but, I got it verified and no longer have a problem. Heed my advice, Gmarket may be a bit more expensive. So, shop around first and get an average price.
For the more advanced/high-end stuff like motherboards or different graphics cards (e.g. BFG,XFX, etc.), shopping overseas and even importing would be cheaper (e.g. buying from your home country and having the item shipped to someone you trust, them having them throw it in a cardboard box and shipping it here insured. I had this done a long time ago for my "used to be monster" PC and it only ran an extra $100 USD. It was worth it as the only thing that could be found in Korea that was in my computer was the Processor. Everything else was no where to be found. |

best to just tell her, IM buying a hdd.. otherwise if I come home with one she sees it anyway.. trade offs! |

Newegg.com are doing XFX 8800GT's for 269USD.....243,000 won. I know that competitive price won't happen in Korea but I will be very dissapointed if I can't get an 8800GT for under 300,000won.

If you want to play new games like Crysis (a monster! My current computer can't even run the demo without crashing) then an 8600 series card is not going to give a smooth ride. It will stutter, skip, freeze etc.
An 8800 series card should be a lot smoother. There are a lot of 8800 models. Your link shows a few like the Ultra, GTX, GTS ....etc......but the one I want is the new one. 8800GT. Not released in Korea yet. It seems to be the be value card for the money. It should cost around 270 dollars but it can be faster than a 370 dollar card. |

eamo, thanks for clearing up the prices. I don't know what I was thinking about. I was looking at the $300 card and thinking that was the lower one. I stand corrected and thank you.
As for the card....
I've read that the 8600GT should be ok for Crysis and Bioshock if you play them on the absolute lowest settings with a 1024x768 resolution. You might get about 30fps in this way.
With the 8800GT, you can play settings almost maxed out on 1280x1024 and still get about 60fps.
Don't quote me on these numbers, I may be remembering them incorrectly.
The 8800GT is as good as the 8800GTS 640 which is over $100 more on average. It gets really close to the 8800GTX which is over $200 more. It's also better than anything 2900XT from ATI by a fair margin. Bang for buck, nothing touches the new 8800GT.
I'm looking to have one in my new rig when I build it. Hopefully the price will be a bit lower by Christmas or another competitor will be out by then.

After a similarly disappointing trip to Yongsan I bought all PC related electronics online through Danawa...
... and I didn�t use a credit card once. If your Korean is up to scratch then a call to the number of the relevant retailer telling them what you want from their site will suffice... add about 5,000W for delivery, take their bank details with you to an ATM to transfer the money across and it should be with you the next day... alternatively you could have a Korean pal do the same for you, or pay for it with your cell phone. |

I was just there on Saturday and found everything I was looking for, although they were pretty common items, and they were all within 1,000 won of the best Danawa price.
I got a DVD+-RW Drive and two memory keys (1GB and 2GB).
When I do build my rig, I won't be doing the footwork, I'll find it online.
