| think with the OP's avatar, that "crappy canadians" thread is quite apt at the moment. |

I'll play devil's advocate for a moment.
I got an invite to Demonoid myself from another user on this board.
I tried hard to have a good ratio, but for some reason my official ratio didn't budge. I eventually gave up and just did my normal thing (download whatever and leave the computer running all night to seed).
It was a couple months later, when I changed to a new torrent software (utorrent), that my share ratio skyrocketed to over 700%. Apparently it only tracked a fraction of my up/downloading as long as I was using that particular software. |

Discuss his ratio, that's fine. Divulge exactly why his ratio is the way it is (embarassing or not), that is needless. In this case, its vindictive.
OP...stick to your own topic. |
How exactly am I not staying on topic? Vindictive maybe, but it isn't cool to be told one thing in PM and then not do it.
Certain sites will ban you if you invite too many deadbeats. I think I have every right to monitor who I invite. |

I think I need to be enlightened. The greater the number of people involved in a torrent, the better it runs. What's the point of one of these clubby private torrents, over the torrents listed on Torrentspy? Why exclude people?

speed!
on private trackers I regularly get downloads of 5mb/s
One time I started a DVD 4.3gb and checked on it 7 minutes later and it was already finished - I didn't even get to see how fast it downloaded. |

Nobody's debating that you have the right to monitor who you invite.
Just don't be an a-hole and post the guys private information (eg. downloading habits/lists of his downloads) up in a public forum! You have NO right to do that. |

Kudos to Ttompatz for a polite reasonable reply to a nasty personal attack.
SKconqueror, showing the porn was uncalled for. Simple ratio stats would have proved your point. You didn't even have to reveal his identity, just show that he was a user, and people could PM you if they were concerned. |

I'm also troubled by the private tracker phenonomennemen.....
The leeching/sharing balance on these private trackers can be really tricky. For example, I was kindly invited to Oink by our poster Samd. Cheers again Samd.
Anyway, as much as how I tried to seed what I downloaded I still couldn't make 1.0. I think I made 0.8 before that site was busted. What's going on? Thebox.bz is the same. You can seed as much as you possibly can but you can't get a good ratio unless you upload new torrents yourself. Or, you can do the perverse thing that tomppatz does by downloading files you don't really want just to improve your ratio.
Is this the new method? |

It is almost required... (downloading high ratio crap like popular porn vids to seed back) especially since a lot of the private trackers DON'T allow new users to upload new files until they reach 1.0 and/or have been there for a substantial amount of time (2-4 weeks) or have "power user" status.
The current state of affairs I guess.... but it is not much different than the old days of f-servers on IRC doing the same thing.
I also want to publicly appologise to SK if he got any flack over my getting kicked (from his invite) before I could re-seed....
Funny thing is that I wouldn't have downloaded anything if I hadn't been told in an auto-generated system message by PM that I had 14 days to get my ratio up before getting banned - then I was banned before the downloads were even finished <2 days after signup.

The site mentioned is (in my opinion) one of the hardest to keep a ratio at. I am hovering around 1.6 (though dont seed more than 24hrs). The key to that site (and alot of others) is to use RSS feed and get popular TV shows within the first 10min.
The site mentioned also does not allow just anyone to upload. I believe it is for security issues. I can't upload either, and I have been a member for a while.. Uploaded: 685.69 GB
Anyway, I am over it now, and have no hard feelings towards ttompatz (just tired and a bit cranky).. anyway, good luck in the future..
http://www.torrential.ws/ is an ok tracker.. the speeds are ok. If anyone wants an invite to there just let me know.. (and no I wont pm your personal download history |

For me, private trackers have always been about selection. A good one has media that hasn't hit, or will never hit, the public trackers. Demonoid was also good at taking down the bogus app torrents, which saved a lot of frustration.
The fastest speeds I ever got was from public trackers. As Lemon says, the more people, the faster it goes.
Here in Canada, Demonoid has been blocked for a while. I've been using public trackers. I was always wary of signing up for and logging into a private tracker, where all my data is saved to a database.
Now that these sites are dropping like flies I'm just going to stick to the public trackers for a while.
Besides, why risk someone feeling a little cranky and posting my history online, because this is his "right?"
No thanks. Another reason to REJECT a torrent invite. |

Haha, from a Canadian ip, you could probably max your upload speed on ANY site..

Here is hoping you get sued
So if you are in Canada why you still wasting your time on a Korean board? You must have a "wonderful" life |

(fingers crossed on the suing part) |
