You know what the saddest thing about you is? Is that your avatar is actually smarter looking than your comments.

It's a no brainer, really...what part of my comment did you not understand... |
Sadly enough I understood it all. But if you would like me to simplify it for you, its called the priority of feeding ones family and having shelter. Do you understand that?
What is with you? Is being called out here publicly not enough of a wake up call to you? I guess not...like I said, your picture is smarter than your words. |

Wrong question spliff. The real question is what part of the article did you really understand? They work for these korean owned factories because the economy in south america is not as developed as in the rest of the world and they need money to help support their families. This may be the only job they can get, or it could be that the Korean factory owners painted a picture of a bright future with a great company and great benifits that the workers are unable to get from other work in their own country.
It doesn't really matter why they work their, the point is that the workers are being mistreated and the Korean bosses justify this mistreatment by saying they are training the workers to work like a korean works. It's called abuse and it would not be tolerated in other more advanced counties, except maybe Korea.
To koamerican: I agree with Goldmember. How can you compare a bunch of abusive Korean supervisors to America's past? Wake up and enter the real world of Korean world dominate wanna be's. Koreans need to realize that their way of doing things is not always the best (in fact, it's rarely if ever the best) and beating people into submission in order to fullfil a day's quota is not the prober way to do business. What's happening to these workers has no resemblence to America's past, and is a sad comentary on the way Korean's treat their employees, both at home and abroad. |

The thing that p***es me off, is that in Korea, foreigners are pressured to act Korean in order to get a long. This is Korea, this is how we do things. That is the common explination for anything that we don't like or understand.
Yet, when Koreans go to another country, they also expect the nationals there to adopt the Korean mind set of how things should be done. Before coming to Korea in 1998, I taught at the ELI attached to my university. When ever a Korean student had any kind of problem at all, they always wanted things sorted out as if they were still in Korea.
"I'm Korean, please understand me."
Is the mantra of all Koreans no matter where they live. When are Koreans going to wake up and realize they are not the center of the universe? |
Not to be apologetic, but does your home country actually make concessions to that fact? When they do it in the US, I've always seen and heard people say "This is America, things are done this way here"
On top of that, you have westerners going to Korea saying "It's wrong to eat dog" or "I don't pour drinks with two hands for seniors or bow to people"
I see where you're going, but in the big scheme of things, it just seems to me like Koreans have had more opportunities recently to get out and do stuff that westerners have been doing for at least 400 years (forcing people in other lands to follow their standards) |

I found this tasty piece of news, this time from Hungary....
http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/071127/hungary_hankook.html?.v=1
Evidently, Korea is trying to export its brand of "work ethics" around the world in the hope of improving the productivity of their host's labor pool....
As someone had said, Korean expats should try to adapt more to their host countries rather than change the environment to meet their own exploitive needs.
They are developing a reputation as slave-drivers in China, Vietnam and now Guatemala......
I remember a story a long time ago where Kathy Lee Gifford came under fire because some of her products were produced in sweatshop conditions and the same is now happening with GAP products.
Yet, Koreans are scrambling to explain and even justify the harsh conditions they place non-Korean workers.......again, the marvel of Korean logic........... |

I had one of those buttons, but my boss broke it the first time they tried it. |
