I agree with everyone else here, please don't euthanize them. I can only imagine the difficulty in trying to have cats in a home with a baby who's allergic to them, but there surely has to be another way than having them killed.
I'd love to take them, except my apartment is far too small for 1 cat, let alone 2. I'll ask around and see if anyone I know is interested.

I would ask everyone who sees this post, even if they aren't interested in the cats themselves, to please ask their friends. We won't leave them with a Korean family, given their irrational but inherent fear of cats, and the only offers we have had come from Jeju, which could mean an 11-hour ferry ride. Our daughter has recently begun breaking out in allergy-related rashes, and if we can't do something with them very soon, it breaks our heart but we will probably have to bring them to be euthanized in the next few days,.
Anyone? anyone - please. We love these cats so much and this is tearing us up.
Thank you. |

If she were even a toddler there are some options for her, but her age is a huge factor here and her horrible breathing and skin problems are not improving here. It is tearing us apart but we need to do something, as much as we love the cats, to improve our daughter's health asap.
We are absolutely sure it is the cats. We were away on vacation in the Philippines this summer and she was fine... it was only when we returned that she began with all of these problems. It is a nightmare if one of the cats has been lying on her blanket, as she is wheezing, coughing and has runny eyes and nose instantly.

Really, I don't want to seem like I'm stalking you or trolling, especially as I have already taken a rather negative few of your "no Korean families" post, but really...this is a no-brainer. It is sad that your daughter has suffered as long as she has for the sake of a couple of animals. I know as soon as I walk into a home that there is a cat there...I have a very strong allergic reaction. The difference is, your daughter can't object...she has to suffer through it. Not cool. |

Comments made by NightSky are a good call, it is a "no brainer".
An infant is forced to endure "horrible breathing and skin problems" because the parents " love these cats so much".
The question begs to be asked, Is it reasonable, or legal, for a parent to force a child to endure horrible health problems?
I have an idea.

We have looked into it - it appears our daughter has the same allergies as I did when I was a child. I eventually grew out of them in my teens, but from taking her to the pediatrician here, as well as some extensive internet research, it appears she is just too young for any effective allergy treatments. If she were even a toddler there are some options for her, but her age is a huge factor here and her horrible breathing and skin problems are not improving here. It is tearing us apart but we need to do something, as much as we love the cats, to improve our daughter's health asap.

We also have looked into flying them back to Canada (as we did fly them here). Unfortunately, as I am sure you know, the streets, alleyways and garbage bin are full of cats. I used to work for the Humane Society in my city, where we were euthanizing them at a rate of at least a dozen a day. No one in our families wants more cats or will accept the responsibility to even care for them while trying to find a home. We know their chances of being successfully adopted back home are very slim, given their age (everyone wants kittens). We were even considering renting the cats their own apartment, but there are none available in our current building and we won't move them across town without even being near them (not to mention the outrageous expense of doing this).
Thanks again to everyone who is looking at this post - all of your help is greatly appreciated - you have no idea. |

It may be a "no-brainer" for a heartless, sadistic, unfeeling person but when it comes to pets (who are just like members of your family), it is not the case. We have been doing everything we can to maintain our daughter's health while keeping the cats as happy as possible as well, but we realize it is not going to work. Now, I am sure for someone such as yourself, you'd be happy to take out the cleaver and slit the cat's throats. Just recognize that there are compassionate, animal-loving people in this world and keep your unhelpful and meritless comments to yourself.
Please only reply if you are interested in providing a home for these two wonderful girls. |
I am willing to provide a home for the cats. |

Asthma Linked to Cat Allergies
By Robin Lloyd, LiveScience Senior Editor
28 September 2007
More than 50 percent of the current asthma cases in the U.S. are the result of allergies, especially to cats, according to a new National Institutues of Health (NIH) study.
Asthmatics, people with allergies and doctors alike have long debated possible connections between pets, dust, ragweed, mold, fungus, foods, cockroaches, traffic exhaust, smog, pollen, trees blooming, leaves falling ... and wheezing attacks, which can be terrifying and life-threatening.
The lack of consensus can be maddening for those who stay up at night with kids gasping for breath, wondering what can be done. Some parents have wondered if children diagnosed with asthma, and medicated for the condition, don't actually have an untreated allergy instead.
The new research shows that 56.3 percent of asthma cases can be attributed to atopy, or allergies, which result from gene-environment interactions and can be measured by a positive skin test to substances in the environment, said Darryl C. Zeldin, a senior investigator at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, part of the NIH.
Cat allergens were found to account for 29.3 percent of the asthma cases, followed by the fungus Alternaria at 21.1 percent and White Oak at 20.9 percent. White Oaks are long-lived trees native to eastern North America and found as far west as Texas and Minnesota.
"This study tells us that allergy is a major factor in asthma," said Peter Gergen of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (also part of NIH), lead author of the study available online today in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology.
Other allergens were tested, such as ragweed, dustmites, Russian thistle, Bermuda grass, peanuts, perennial rye and german cockroach, but only cats, the fungus and white oak were positively and independently associated with asthma.
"Sensitization to cat appears to be a strong risk factor for asthma in this study," Zeldin said.
About 10,500 individuals were tested for their link to atopy, or allergies, as part of the Third National Health and Nutrition Examination Study, a national representative sample of the U.S. population.
"This study confirms that the environment plays a major role in the development of asthma," Zeldin said. "Given the complexity of this disease it won't be easy, but if we can prevent or reverse atopy, we could reduce a large proportion of asthma cases." |

'ULTRA' -Stop trolling Dave's to pick out people's posts and make negative comments about them!
Honestly, do you have nothing better to do with your time?
We are trying to find a home for our beloved pets! Unfortunately we cannot keep them ourselves due to the health problems they pose on our infant daughter.
You are taking time out of your day to prove what? That we are "bad" parents? I believe we are doing the right thing in trying to find them a home any way we can.
Your only purpose out here is to provoke arguments with people you have never seen and do not know. (We've seen your other posts in various discussions)
Of course our daughter comes first in everything we do.
If that were not the case we would just keep the cats.
Maybe you can find something more constructive to do with your time ...something other than coming out on Dave's and posting negative comments on discussions....or canvassing for alcohol.
Leave people like us alone who are using this forum for what it was intended.
To all others:
Thanks for your concerns and emails and private messages. We hopefully have someone willing to adopt them who is corresponding with my husband.
However anyone willing to adopt them is still encouraged to message us.
Thank you~ |

Ultra, you are a true gem.
So I went to Namdaemun and bought my Polish vodka. It's called Belvedere. Not what I wanted, but polish all the same.
Tastes good and it shall feel good on Christmas Eve.
Thank you all for all your help! |

I just wanted to extend my heartfelt thanks to Eileen!
A very nice woman has come forth to adopt our cats until the day arrives that we can reunite with them.
Hopefully we'll able to start allergy treatments on our daughter in a few months but until then we know they will be in good hands.
Even as I type they are on their way. We have hired our Kindergarten school bus driver to transport them.
Fortunately today is the beginning of vacation week for our school and he was able to accept the job.
So thank you Eileen for helping us out and saving our little babies!
To all others we thank you for your concerns about our cats.
This was hard for us to go through and the sympathy from those compassionate people helped.
So, another happy ending from a post on Dave's!
Sorry Negative people out there.....you'll have to find someone else to unjustly pick on for your own sad self gratification!
Keep your negative comments to yourselves..... no one wants to read them!
