You know maybe I had him confused with Ernest Rutherford. Both were on Kiwi money. I do remember Hillary being in those old series of Amex commercials featuring people who had recognizable names but not recognizable faces.

Condolences from an American climber, he will be missed. A true gentleman and humble to boot, he was an example that more people should strive for.

Wow, that's sad. I'm sorry to hear this; he's always been a legend to me.

Why remember Hillary?
Because he was there.

I remember calling Sir Ed.(I asked a newspaper about the trust; they called back with his daughters number; I called her in order to call him) when he was high commissioner in New Delhi back in 89 as to how I could deliver fundraising to the Nepalese education fund. He put me on to Liz. Hawley(Hon.Consul) in Kathmandu and a month later delivered the proceeds in person.
Saw him once in Hawaii in 96(my girlfriend and I were sitting on the floor keeping ourselves amused) while flights were delayed.
Sir Ed. was a gentleman and I was/am honored to have had the opportunity to talk to him in person and be a part of his trust.

Of course, we all know that Sherpa Tenzing was actually the first man to peak Everest.
