If I've learned one thing in life, it is that no matter how bad things are at the moment, they can always get worse. Stupidity, incompetence and self-delusion seem to be bottomless.
If it seems that everything that can go wrong has gone wrong, you can still get one more paper cut, if nothing else. |

Firefighters Work To Sink Giuliani Campaign
Tue Jan 22, 5:25 PM ET
Firefighters across the United States are joining forces to try to sink Rudy Giuliani's presidential campaign effort.
Some local firefighters said they call his recollections of the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, and promises of fighting terrorism a myth and insult.
A firefighters' union on North Orange Blossom Trail was the first stop in a series of rallies on Tuesday. Members urged voters not to support Giuliani for president.
The rally was organized by the International Association of Firefighters and family members of the victims of Sept. 11.
They said Giuliani is a fraud when he claims to be a leader in the wake of the terrorist attacks, and a liar for claiming to protect firefighters during the excavation of ground zero.
They also said he's weaving a myth on the campaign trail when he claims to have prepared New York City in the wake of the World Trade Center bombing in 1993.
Retired Deputy Fire Chief Jim Riches lost his firefighter son on Sept. 11, 2001.
"The terrorists killed my son, but Rudy Giuliani gave us bad respirators, which caused many first responders to get sick and die. We had to fish human remains out of the garbage dump, and also he had failures in communication in everything else that did lead to unnecessary deaths ... down there of civilians and firemen because his administration failed to heed the warnings of '93," Riches said.
Giuliani was endorsed last week by a national organization of state police during a visit to Walt Disney World
The group said the No. 1 reason they're backing him is that he's the best candidate to improve ... "national security".
As for the firefighters' claim, a Giuliani spokesman said they're simply an arm of the Democratic Party.

| Like I said, I hope he doesn't win Florida. It will be a big blow to him. I'm not sure the police assocation is an "arm of the Democratic Party" as they stated in the article, but one thing is for sure, his candidacy belongs in Disney World. |

Stupidity, incompetence and self-delusion come to mind when I think of people like Aaron Russo and his film From Freedom to Fascism. If he had kept his beef with the IRS and the Federal Reserve it would have probably been an okay movie. But he had to keep peddling the same 'Jewish bankers are taking over the world controlling our every move with RFID chip/ national ID card' nonsense.
I mean, honestly, is there any way to advance Libertarian philosophy without resorting to these dim-witted conspiracy theories? |

"Giuliani made an unscheduled visit to the Daytona International Speedway for a photo op of the former mayor speeding in circles in his campaign bus around the racetrack inside the empty stadium, perhaps an almost too-perfect metaphor for his effort here. "
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080124/ap_on_el_pr/giuliani_florida
Wednesday in Estero, he even gave the impression of being bored with his own message. "I've given this lecture on leadership so many times, I could probably do it in my sleep..."
What's even funnier, is that on a video posting, Giuliani nearly threw a public crying tantrum when the Daytona Speedway managers refused to allow him to drive or ride in the official pace car. They let his driver take the campaign bus around track in the empty stadium to mollify him.
Lollipop for the baby. What a loser. |

Where will the crypto-fascists turn if Giuliani drops out of the race? It's an interesting question. They hate Huckabee (he's been mildly critical of Bush's prosecution of the Great War on Terror, and besides any politician who raises taxes for any reason is a Socialist); Thompson is already gone; McCain shows a girlish reluctance to torture people; Romney is from Massachussetts.
I honestly thought all along that Giuliani would get the nomination. I still think he would have, if he'd been a little smarter about tactics -- I thought, and obviously he thought, that a late-state strategy would be more viable than it has turned out to be. He overlooked the media's insatiable need to crown winners and losers as early as possible, in order to sell today's papers.
But who knows? His strategy always revolved around Super Tuesday, and it's not February 6 yet. I'm not ready to count him out. Never underestimate the power of the "F-You Boys" as an American voting bloc. |
