Yes, we did.
The Articles of Confederation and Perpetual Union was proposed in 1777 and functioned as the government (after a fashion) until they were formally adopted in 1781. It continued in effect until superseded by the Constitution (1789). It's end should be dated to the convening of the first Congress (March 4) and Washington's taking of the oath of office (April 30). |
