| Vegetarianism limits the range of experiences available to us, and this is not good. |
| I agree. Its pernicious and ought to be discouraged. |

| What's NOT correct is that omnivores will always eat a greater variety of foods than herbivores, because in reality, you've got people who are born, live and die in the same house and thus shop at the same grocery store and are subject to the limitations of location, personal preference, finances, etc, etc. |
Fair observation, but I'll point out again that we are talking about the range of possible choices, not the ones actually made.
An omnivore has the range of food choices that includes anything at all that is not poisonous or will activate an allergic reaction, and that range also includes foods that are found to be delicious as well as though that are not. (An acquaintance, years ago, self-reported that he enjoyed the flavors of various shellfish but was unable to eat them due to getting a severe reaction.)
Vegetarians, on the other hand, have removed a large number of foods from their diet that are possible to eat, and while their reasons for doing so are as valid as any others, and likely sufficient to compensate for the coimparative lack of breadth of choices available, it does, I believe represent a small total set of choices available..

AMAZING! Aren't you the same genius who wrote:

Yeah, I guess we should chalk that up to you not being a scientist. |
Genius, no. Not a scientist, yes.
What you quoted was an alternative provided for a poll, a poll presented for entertainment purposes. I've already stated that I myself voted otherwise. Did you have a point?
There might be a misconception going about that I dislike vegetarians and/or vegetarianism. I don't think that's true, though I can understand it due to the amount of energy I needed to expend to explain an assertion that arrogance is a character trait often displayed among those who practice this particular diet or discipline - doesn't necessarily mean that I dislike such people, merely that I view the lifestyle as one that contributes to the set of behaviors so described.
It's not a choice I have made for myself, and these discussions are intended to help clarify certain thoughts I have about it. You, Darashii, have contributed quite a bit to my knowledge base on this topic, as have others who have participated. I thank you. |

Okay, but again, I know you just want to prolong discussion, but it'll just end up being as circular as the others, because sure, there is a theoretical degree of limitation to vegetarianism, but since we're living in reality, why ignore it? That doesn't incite any more discussion than considering the reality of the limitations of omnivores.
Also, you've brought in subjective ideas of "more beneficial, interesting, rewarding and valuable", so are you not just opening yourself up to the same debunking you did in the other vegetarian thread? You pretend to use math to argue that vegetarianism should be discourage and/or is "bad" for whatever reason, but in reality, you just turn around and revert to the same arguments vegetarians use to explain themselves: "beneficial, interesting, rewarding and valuable", etc.
But, wait, I can't bring up reality because meat is too lofty for that mess?
Feel free to pick your battles, but weaponry is out of your control.
And to elaborate the missed point, keep slipping up like that (expressing a sentiment of controlling people's actions with the pretense of knowing better) and you'll start sounding like RT. |
