Umm.. you need to check out Dunn's Variety on Killam Dr., near the Coliseum. That place is run by Koreans, also. They have Korean meals... Pork Cutlet, Bulgogi, a spicky pork dish, and I think they also do ramen. I suually go for the Bulgogi! It's awesome!

The only way I knew about it was because of the Johnny's Coupon books, that have a coupon for buy one, get one free Korean Entrees. The prices are also pretty reasonable.

Also, the people who own the store on Main St. have a little set up at the Dieppe Farmer's Market on Saturdays and sell food there as well. It's a bit pricy, though...

Not too much longer and I'll be back in Korea having the real stuff!!

I live in Fredericton, as well. I'm home on my xmas break and I went to my friends annual xmas eve get together. Some people all brought food and I was surprised to see bulgogi on the stove. I kid you not, there was a North Korean there. I was with girlfriend ( SOuth Korean) at the party. So, there was a South Korean, North Korean and bulgogi at this xmas party.

I have a feeling that it is the same reason you see big influx of Chinese as well. My Chinese real estate agent friend who just got her Canadian passport said Chinese and Koreans are moving to Atlantic Canada because they don't have the money to invest in TO or Vancouver.

They will buy a small grocery store, basically investing just enough to make the Canadian gov happy, then after 6 years they can apply for citizenship and head back home.

Costs them far less to do that in Atlantic Canada.

6 or 7 years of English, gov subsidized education for the kids doesn't hurt either.

Does either city have a Korean Restaurant? I might just have to pack up the wife and kids and head home.

I'm home in Halifax now, so I thought I'd give an update.

I've been to Bach's cafe on Agricola, and I have to say I hated it. I ordered Bulgogi with my mom to introduce her to Korean food, and not only were the portion sizes terribly small, but it was not very tasty. They said they "Canadianized" the sauce to make it more palatable to locals. It was gross. I haven't been back since.

Korea Garden was ok... not fantastic but still good. Had Jaeyook Bokkum (sorry no Hangul here) and it was good. The lady was very friendly. Their menu is very limited on weekends, but the full selection is available Monday to Friday when they get most of their customers from the business district.

The BEST place I've had Korean food here so far is Minato Sushi on Queen street, close to the intersection by BMO and across from Port of Wines. The owners are from Seoul, near Jamsil. It is a Japanese restaurant primarily, but they have a page on their menu for "delicacies from Korea". I've had their fried and steamed mandu, dolsot bibimbap, yuk gae jang, chapchae, bulgogi and kimchi, and not only was it the most authentic I've had, but it was homemade by the Ajumma there and delicious! Really recommend the yuk gae jang there. My only small issue was that I didn't find the gochujang quite hot enough for my liking.

I've been to JJ Mart on Gottigen and it's great. The lady there is very friendly and they have a great selection there. I've also been to an Oriental market on Queen (the end by the Sobeys and Little Caesars, close to SMU). It was ok as well, but slightly more crowded, a little dirty, and had a more broad selection of not just Korean food, but also Japanese, Chinese, Thai, etc.

I've driven by the one on Chebucto. It's called Heiwa market. I haven't been in there yet simply because I find parking there that close to the rotary to be a bit of a pain.

I really do recommend Minato sushi though. You can get some really good Korean food there, and some great sushi to boot!

There is a Korean restaurant in downtown Fredericton. It's awful. I went there recently with my girlfriend, I'll never go back and I don't recommend anyone to go there.

OK, this is very strange. I had no idea a town called Fredericton even existed before this morning when I read this thread. I didn't take much notice of this thread, as it didn't really apply to me.

This afternoon after work I went to E-Mart. I was getting some kimchi from the counter (yes, I actually buy it sometimes. It's funny watching the Koreans around me, such as the counter employee, swell with pride when they see me get some). Another customer at the counter starts speaking to me in fair English. She did the whole "where are you from" thing. She told me she lives in Canada and is just visiting her husband who lives in Korea. She tells me she lives in New Brunswick, and off-handedly mention Fredericton. weird...
