why not try studying Korean . find a teacher or a class and self study 3 or 4 times a week. so when you get to donghae next year you can speak some korean.. this will be my first choice..
also while out there why not look into doing some weekend trips around local temples or cultural things lets not forget Korea does offer so much culturally and there is a lot to see and do around there.. go to an information stop and check out whats going on . remember cherry blossoms are coming very soon so be aware of that..

watch movies, study korean, meet people, try and meet a girl, talk with locals and find that spark of korea which really lit your fire before..
so I think getting on a bus on weekends and staying a minbak or love motel and seeing the local province as you are in a town of 3000 im sure you have seen everything there. but get around the local big cities and explore! dont stay in and feel sorry for yourself or thinking korea is a downer., its up to you to make it exciting..
take it easy..

Buy a car.

If you feel stuck in a small town, there's nothing better than being able to jump in the car and head somewhere else at whim.

There's more than a few teachers in Samcheok/ Donghae, and having a car makes it easier to be social and have some people to hang out with.

That, and where you are is a wealth of outdoor beauty in out of the way places, that will be glorious come Spring/ Summer - I'm going to miss it. The deserted beaches, fresh water fishing streams, mountain sports some beautiful National Parks and temples just over the border of Gyeongsangbuk.

Now I want to go back there. Dammit.
