It looks like a nice place, and clearly the guy had just moved in - he's not even unpacked yet in the video. What a great outdoor space, and even an enclosed patio!
1 million is very, very little to ask for a deposit. I imagine his deposit is actually 3-5 for that place, and only that low because it's in Itaewon.
Good luck on your roommate search. |

| Hi, I don't have enough posts on the site to be able to PM you. If the room is available, would you email me at [email protected] ? Thanks! |

| I'd have to agree with the previous poster, it looked to me like he had just moved in and is looking for a roommate to help share the costs. The apt looked pretty clean to me, I don't know what everyone is complaining about. Some people are just perpetual whiners... |

it's creepy. It's a guy who was asking for only female tenants (at first-when someone called him on it, he changed his tune). he's obviously paid key money, why would he want it from a roommate? He's asking for too much deposit. that's all. he's asking for too much and that's why this ad is still here and he hasn't found a roommate. jam. |

| I feel certain you are not helping yourself with the avatar. For those that don't recognize the character, its a the psychopathic killer from the movie No Country for Old Men. |

As to why he might want key money:
I pay my own key money. And a lot of it at that. If I had a roomie, I would want them to contribute to the cost of the house, and also ensure that they feel vested in the space. This is to say that many people only take care of property when they feel the are a stakeholder in it. Asking the new guy or gal to pay a million is A: not a lot, and B: a good way to get the roomie to feel as if they have to take care of the apartment too. Why should 1/2 of the tenants pay 100% of the down payment?
It's never totally safe to invite a stranger into your living space to share it with you. Asking for key money is a smart move. For each ten million down you play 100,000 less a month... on average. Roomies should contribute equally... IMHO.
Ciao and good luck!

| Cool, so if the rent is 600,000 per month and I pay 6mill key money then I don't have to pay any rent...I should rent a place and get housing allowance from my school. Thanks for the tip! |

For a 50 pyeong place in Bundang, the key money starts at 80,000,000. That is the base. The monthly rent with that key money is 1,500,000 a month. After the base, 10,000,000 additional takes the rent down by 100,000. |

| Man, that balcony was awesome! I could hear birds chirping, at first I thought it was a joke and it was an apartment in the west. Pretty sweet deal. |

BS- on a month to month deal. the key money was used by the sexiopath to get the apt.
If he wants to rent to a westerner, he should charge rent, month to month.
Because the perv lives there with the roomie, he will notice if the tenant is a F-up and can evict on the spot; no reason for key money. He's looking for a hooker or a sucker; he wants the former, but he'll settle for the latter. You want proof? send the guy a pic of a 60 year old guy who is interested and I bet he'll say the apt is rented. He wants a girl or a young dumb kid.....
PS- if he was normal- he'd have rented it to a friend by now..... |

this is the funniest thread ever. the OP is perpetually looking for roommates with "interesting" demands about not cooking and other cleanliness issues and keeps lowering the rental fee "IF YOU PROMISE YOU'RE CLEAN!" the first apartment fell through, will this one? maybe it's time to look for a one-room.
It puts the soap on its skin.... |

Point well taken on the part about being able to kick someone out. Maybe he doesnt want a westerner though. Perhaps he is looking for a Korean sucker???? |

FYI, I went to check the place out but before he'd rent to me he made me put on a blonde wig and heels and then demanded I make him lunch, but without cooking.
I got the F outta there. |
