better get ready to drop a huge wad of cash for that weekend, according to air china's us website the weekend of the 9th airfares run US$700 r/t
whats really nuts the airfare for my summer trip to Malaysia/Thailand in July/Aug will be not much more money than what we're paying to go to HK Children's Day weekend |
My co-teacher helped me find flights on a Korean travel site, leaving from Incheon, for around 200k + fees for that weekend, but I didn't book yet so that price may have gone up. Also, I did find out that there is a 24 month multiple entry visa for $130, but I'm not sure if I can get that one from Seoul. Has anyone heard anything about this?

I don't know if the law has changed or not, but when my husband applied for his visa to China, the travel agent explaine to him about the different types of visa and I remember him saying that multiple visas were for business people only, and that a tourist would normally only be given a single entry visa. As my husband runs a business, he got a multiple visa but he has friends who are not businessmen who only got single entry the last time they went together.
I have no clue, since I don't need a visa to go into China (I have Hong Kong citizenship), but that was what I was told a few years ago. |

| i just sent my visa via courier to the embassy. starting from last week, the embassy in seoul will not issue anything other than a single entry visa. they don't know why, but they suspect its because of the tibet situation. the chinese embassy is closed today, but I'm calling them tomorrow for confirmation. |

Really? That's no good.
Yeah the cheapest price I found thru a few travel agents was 460k for airfare to Beijing, plus 140 for the visa. And if it's just single entry, no way, too expensive. Bummer.
I've heard that the Sokcho/Gangneung area in Gangwon-do is very scenic. Does anyone know if it gets rainy over there in May? Thanks everybody for your help |

| This may be a dumb question: Is Hong Kong allowed its own visa rules (and prices), or am I still required to shell out 140k for a Chinese gov't L-tourist visa? The more I think about 140k, the more I'm thinking it's not worth it for a weekend. |

no chinese visa needed for hk, americans get 90 days on arrival. you cant though go to shenzen across the border though which is supposed to have the best shopping.
likewise you can take the ferry from hk to macau, same visa policy and worth a day to visit |

Best shopping for what?
Fake LV bags?
I was there in February... it was like one big giant junk market. |

I'm planning on going for the weekend of the 9th-12th (four day weekend) to Beijing, but I'm not going to use a travel agent b/c my I have a friend there who can get a place and my co-teacher in Korea is getting me a cheap flight. How would I go about getting a visa (I'm a yank so I know it'll be $$$$)? Any help is great. Thanks. |
cost for americans is 140k/person for a visa 50k for everybody else.
were you able to find tickets? almost everything is booked out. it reminds me of chuseok |
when did the cost of a visa for china shoot up for americans? that's a huge jump! |
