This sounds great. How much do these straight perms cost? Do they make your hair smell funky like curly perms?

Suyu is on line 4 as well ... Stop 414

if you leave the subway at suyu and find the street bewteen the lotteria and McDonalds theres a bus stop on the lotteria side. take the the 9, 11, or 11b bus (green ones) go until you see a 7/11. get off there and its in the second hair salon you see on your right.

You can't wash your hair for 48 hours - and it does smell a little "burnt" ... but it's well worth the stench Smile Do it on a weekend is my suggestion

hope this helps!!

i've done magic straight about 6 times since 2003.

the hair that has been straightened will be straight forever. but in my case, i have noticed that there is usually a spot that is a little messed up, but it smooths out after a month or so.

the last time i did it was mid-november. now i have about an inch or an inch and a half of new hair.
what i try to do is wait until my hair has grown out a few inches before i go back.

they are putting strong chemicals in your hair and while i love magic straight, i'm not trying to have my hair fall out.

speaking of hair falling out, you won't be losing any more hair than before the procedure.
the first time i did it, i *thought* that i was losing a lot of hair, but it wasn't any more than before. i have wavy/curly hair and before magic straight, i'd have a bunch of hair in my hairbrush. after magic straight the hair that would have come out in the hairbrush (because my hair was in 2 braids and not down), now just falls out whenever.

because my hair is thin, the process takes longer than it does for their regular customers because they want to treat it to strengthen it, and then they want to get it done right so my hair doesn't fall out.

when the hair grows out, i just use a regular straight iron to straighten it.

the cost is like 130,000won, depending on where you go.
it takes about 3hrs for me to get through the whole thing, so, you might want to plan to be there a while if it's your first time.

if you're not sure of where to go, my friends told me that a hair salon that has young people in it and working there is probably going to be the best.
their advice hasn't failed me yet.

Think i'm definitely gonna get it done, though gonna wait until i have a weekend where not much is happening...

130 doesn't sound too bad for what you describe, seems like they're being quite careful with your hair! Back in the uk i've heard of similar treatments costing 130 pounds.

Hairdressers usually hate me cus my hair is so thick, so i'm used to the long waits too Wink all the other teachers in my school want to come with me and get it done now after reading the comments here Smile

^
i've done the perm 3 times in korea and 3 times in japan.

what they have all done is look at my hair and feel it, testing the elasticity.

my hair is dark brown and looks black from afar, but up close you can see various different shades of brown. so, i've been asked if i dye my hair almost everytime.

i don't know where your area is, but if you're in seoul, i'd recommend going to edae and getting it done there.
but look around some places, and if you're not comfortable with a smaller place, go to a larger chain.

i'd just plan a day around it, and bring some reading materials.
they also give you a free drink (orange juice, tea, water, etc).

all of the places i've gone to have had people jump from person to person.

my british friend wasn't really feelin that when she got a haircut, so if you are expecting one person on you only, you might be surprised.

good luck with where ever you plan on going.

i was told that i could wash my hair the next day. it will smell "permy" for a week or so, especially when you wash it.
just kind of leave the hair as is for a month or so (don't change your part, don't try and curl it with a straight iron, don't dye it).

I wonder which is more damaging? Flat-ironing everyday or chemical straightening. Hmmm... Any thoughts?

I'd say everyday flat-ironing is much worse for your hair, since it is receiving damage from a heat appliance everyday. I've had 3 magic straight perms here since 2004. I want to get anoither one soon. I have also found that if you buy good shampoos it can control thick frizzy hair.

Can you please recommend one of these shampoos?

I got it done in Seoul last June and my hair is still straight. It only cost me 50,000 including a cut and I didn't notice any damage to my hair whatsoever. I used to spend so long straightening my hair with an iron in the mornings just to have it go wavy again if it was raining or humid. Best money I ever spent on my hair!!

But yeah, you can't wash your hair for 48 hours which kinda sucks. You have to try to not get any water on it and you can't put pins or elastics in because it will make creases. Well worth it though.

Does everyone recommend going into Seoul for this? How do I find a stylist who speaks English?

Yes, I have been colouring my hair since I was in high school and the magic straight worked perfectly.

Does anyone know if this only works well on certain types of hair? I'm just wondering because I'm black and I'm not sure if it would be more damaging or work as well on my hair.

so was wondering, for anyone who's had this done.. did they straighten from the root or leave an inch or so?, cus I don't really want my hair to lie really flat to my head, i like a bit of volume! Is this even something to consider?
