Interesting...as a contrast to your thought...I knew a fellow [Queen's] graduate student from Beijing...who during the 1989 uprising, had helped comandeer a train enroute into the city...he spent three years in prison for his anarchist actions. While in our graduate programme: we helped analyze Chinese websites for an agency of the Canadian government. (Data for intelligence gathering purposes.)

In the Global Village...we wear all Mankind as our skin.

This was Uni student, btw!

Well, the Chinese Government is afraid of not having strong control over the country of the country later cracking or something. They do seem paranoid. What's the percentage of Han Chinese in China? I may not agree with the sentiments of the protesters and feel bad for the Tibetans, and think they deserve some autonomy, but if these Chinese Canadians or Chinese residents of Canada want to protest, let them protest.
People don't all have the same political opinions, you know.....
As long as protesters are not being violent, it's okay...

Ahh Tibet.

What's better? Being completely poor and backward whilst a few Monks (including the Dalai Lahma...ooh what celebrity) live like kings or having the Chinese come in and bring modernization to the area (including a rise in the standard of living).

I don't believe anything when it comes to Tibet.

China: Tibetans Planning Suicide Attacks
By CHRISTOPHER BODEEN, Associated Press Writer

BEIJING - China on Tuesday accused "Tibet independence forces" of planning to use suicide squads to trigger bloody attacks the lastest in a string of accusations that have taken aim at supporters of the Dalai Lama.

The prime minister of Tibet's government-in-exile denied the claims, saying Tibetans are committed to a "nonviolent path."

"To our knowledge, the next plan of the Tibetan independence forces is to organize suicide squads to launch violent attacks," Public Security Bureau spokesman Wu Heping said Tuesday.

"They claimed that they fear neither bloodshed nor sacrifice," Wu told a news conference.

Wu offered no firm evidence to support his claims. Wink

The following is a translation of Wei Jingshen's letter to Deng Xiaoping in 1992.

The letter shows a remarkable understanding of the Tibet situation and lays blame on the Chinese leadership specifically Deng Xiaoping.

Over the past few weeks protests against Chinese rule in Tibet have erupted across Tibet and internationally.

At issue is the question of Chinese sovereignty over Tibet.
