Suwon is great for those of us who don't need big noses around us to be happy. |
I envy you. Mind you, I get along great with Korean men. I love their whole way of thinking and acting. I get on with them way better than I ever did back home. The problem is I don't like Korean women. And there are NO non-Korean women in Suwon (except for the soulless Canadian hedonists at the Villagee), so I end up travelling to Seoul rather often. |
Not true. There are attractive non-Korean women in Suwon, myself included. Perhaps you are missing us because you are always going to Seoul.
As for Anyang vs. Suwon, I'd probably say Anyang. It has a nice vibe to it and the short subway ride to Seoul is definitely a bonus. |

Yeah, I was just about to edit my post to point out that I was exagerating. Before any Villagee folks get offended, I'll also say that I was being undeservedly harsh. Maple syrup rocks.
Anyway, I'll cut this short since it's only slightly related to the OP's question. No doubt there are a few wonderful ladies in Suwon, but there's no question that it's rather sparse compared to Seoul. If you're like me (i.e. ugly) the larger number of foreign girls in Seoul is a big plus. But for all I know this could be irrelevant to the OP.
How is Anyang, smell-wise? My biggest beef with Suwon so far is the ubiquitous stank. |

You will be glad to know that your post was entirely relevant as I am like you (i.e. ugly)!
Thanks for ALL of the posts above (yes binchlover, that includes you...I would have felt let down if nobody had chosen to put a football score reply up). I have until Monday to make up my mind...wondering now if it might all come down to whether or not Anyang smells worse than Suwon! |

| Thanks for all of the above posts....for those of you are interested...I chose Suwon. In the end, it came down to the fact that I will probably be focusing less on big nights out, and more on wandering about. I may regret the decision...in fact...I almost certainly will! For those of you were are not interested (let's assume that's 99.9% of the punters here on Dave's)...you might as well move on to the next thread. Thanks again for the help folks...any of you Suwoners wanna catch up for a coffee/bevvy/chat, I will be arriving at the start of May. |

Problem is, there are like, 4 foreigners in the whole country who don't live in Seoul. Everytime I take that damn two hour subway ride into "the only city in the country," I burn with envy for the people in Anyang. Suwon is great as a city, but living in Oklahoma after Armageddon would be less lonely for a white guy.
Cheap, though. |
But my recruiter told me Suwon was only 20 minutes from downtown Seoul... |

Youngtong-dong is a nice part of town. Nice and new. It also has the highest concentration of foreigners, and is home to one of two ex-pat bars (Now Bar). The only problem is that its on the opposite end of the city from Suwon station, so if you go to Seoul add at least a 30 minute bus ride to your journey.

He meant 20 miles. Also remember: 1: you probably have to take the bus to get to Suwon Station, which can be a significant delay. 2: the subway travels at about the same speed as your grandmother after her last hip operation. 3: depending on where you go in Seoul, you will probably need to make one or even two transfers, which sets you back as well. So yeah, it's not that far, but if you think you're gonna get from your front door to Itaewon in 60 minutes, think again. |

From Yeongtong, you ARE only 25-30 minutes from Gangnam Station on the 1550 bus (when there isn't rush-hour traffic). If you go from Yeongtong to Suwon Station, and THEN to Seoul, you are going AWAY from Seoul for your first leg to Suwon Station. |

This magical super-bus of which you speak, where is it? I wish desperately to ride it. |

| Maybe 50 meters past the walking bridge. Go (east) the opposite way you would if you were going to Suwon Station. Can't miss it, all the buses stop there. Right on the main road that they're doing subway construction on. About 5 different buses go to Gangnam from there. 5500 as well. |

Yongtong-Dong? You might as well be located in Daejeon if you're planning to go into Seoul at all!
The 25 minute bus to Gangnam is a distortion of reality often cited by those who have been brainwashed.
Anyways, in reality, Anyang destroys Suwon. I've lived in both--Suwon has very little to offer.
Anyang is closer to Seoul, cross-sected by two subway lines, has busses to all the important areas of Seoul and Gyeonggi, has better nightlife, better and closer mountains nearby to hike, more trees lining the streets, less pollution, nicer and more active parkspace which is easier to access, friendlier locals, more and cooler shopping, slightly better dining options.
Suwon is one really really big, spread out hick town. |

You're not giving directions in Mayberry, dude, you could be describing a place miles away. Which "walking bridge?" I'm in Maetan 3 if that helps.
