I've been to both Phuket and Krabbi. The beaches in Krabbi are way better. Take a day tour to Kho Hong and you wo't need the snorkle or mask as you can see the fish swim around you. There are tons of Parrot fish. these are really colorful.

Railay beach is also great. Walk through the cave to the other side.

There is a faous dirt road strip of bars in Au Nang. This is the place to go at night. Then again if you get bored at night Patong beach is close by

Hi there!

I'm Thai. Glad to know that many people love to visit our beautiful beach in Thailand. Very Happy

Comparing to Krabi and Samui, it really depends on which activities you'd prefer to do.

I've visited all Krabi, Samui, and recently March this year i went to Phuket.

I'd give the best score to Krabi if you'd like to do snorkling. If you have chance, make it to visit island at Trang-Krabi. So many colorful fish and only snorkling you can see pretty coral there.

For Samui, it seems to be place for honeymoon concept ^^.

Phuket is also good place as many activities to enjoy. Phuket Fantasea, it's great!! Beach has recovered from Tsunami but not yet completely beautiful. I did snorkling but i didn't enjoy a lot as my best snorkling trip was Trang-Krabi.

Air ticket: Air Asia airline to Phuket was 3,200B. (round trip)

Many promotion can be found through booking online.

Don't arrange a package tour through a Korean company. Just buy a plane ticket and do the rest yourself. Unless you don't mind spending 90% of your trip in a bus and eating Kimchi Chigea.

These days I just deal directly with the airlines. It helps when you're a Skypass member.

I wouldn't totally diss Samui.. sure, lots of development up around Chaweng / Airport area, but plenty to explore as well. Also, Ko Pha Ngan (sounds a little like "Panyan" but you won't see it spelt that way) is chilled out.. yes, it has the Full Moon Party and the Goa/Ibiza vibe down at Hat Rin but it's extremely misleading to paint even there, let alone the whole island as a total washed out drug-hippy / crooked cop fest. The FMP is good times and if you're not looking for trouble you won't find any. Don't stay in Hat Rin, don't carry anything you wouldn't want the cops to find when you're out on your scooter, and you'll have an awesome time.

Book internal flights with airasia.com and bangkokairways.com. sawadee.com is great for booking accommodation, they contact even some of the tiniest places for you, handle credit card bookings and you just show up with the receipt / voucher you print out.

Yeah, that's beautiful! I love the way the rocks jut up from the sea like that. interesting geography.

Ao Nang and Railay beaches are not all that special, in my opinion, and one is limited in terms of what you can do - you have the beach and that's it.

Samui is not all that great either. You have Chaweng and that's about it and the beach is okay. I'd say go to Samui if you can't get to Phuket due to bad weather conditions / rainy season. Good thing about Samui is that you can also do Ko Pha Ngan as part of your trip. I don't like Ko Tao because it's too small and cluttered, but if you want to check it out you can include all three - Samui, Pha Ngan and Tao. This is the next best thing to Phuket.

Phuket offers a wider range of activities for the visitor and is a lot biggger for exploring. You can rent a bike and explore, island tours out to Ko Phi Phi, etc., snorkelling, fishing, gun range, motocross, go-karts, bungy jumping, Crocodile and Cobra farms, enjoy great restaurants, bars, pubs, golf, Phuket town, shopping malls, movie theatres....

As a total package, Phuket can't be beat.

If you do go to Phuket or Krabi, don't miss Phang Nga / Nail island / James Bond Island / Ko Panyi:

I've been to both Krabbi and Phuket. The beaches in Krabbi are way better than Phuket. I went to Krabbi first, after seeing the beaches in Krabbi the beaches in Phuket are pleasent but flat. I also prefer a beach that is not cluttered with umbrella's. If I want that I'll just go to Pattaya

There's nothing in Phuket that you can't find in Krabbi. Unless you're into Ladyboys.

I've flown with Nokair and found them to be very good. Unless prices have skyrocketed in the last year, I'm sure you could do better than the 2-3000 round trip others are quoting. I went Bangkok to Krabi last year for about 1400 baht.

http://nokair.com

They also have a nice feature for booking over the phone. Just dial 1318 (in Thailand) with your passport handy, book the seat, they will give you a confirmation number and you can then pay and get the receipt at most 7-elevens (which are everywhere.) Nice if you don't want to use a cc.

Forget Samui. Unless you know someone there it's one of the biggest rip-offs in Thailand (and I've been many times, but only cuz my friend has a nice house there). If you don't mind forking out $600 a day to stay at the Four Seasons or another such exclusive resort (which I'm sure are awfully nice...), you'll find a better value nearly anywhere else. Everything is way pricier than even BKK. Chaweng is a severely overdeveloped hole, full of annoying touts and the 'Armani' suit tailoring cartel, who harass you every ten meters even at like 3AM. Lamai isn't much better. Basically the only fairly decent place to stay on the island is Bo Phut, and Maenam is alright too.

The taxis on the island are worthless (actually they are a gang). They don't use meters at all and will happily extort from you 300-500 baht to get from Chaweng to Lamai (which is only a few km and would only cost 35 baht in BKK). You can instead rent your own scooter for like 100 baht per day. Rolling Eyes

Krabi is better.

You have to be careful of the accomidation scams on Samui. Don't rent from the airport. Go to the beach you want to stay and try to make a deal.
Some times they'll cut down the price if you book multiple days.

I paid less for accomidation in Phuket and I was extorted from the taxi mafia. The Beach in Phuket in nicer and the bargirls prettier.
