Just my 2 cents.
Girlfriend and I wanted to get a cell phone. Went to Show off the recommendation of a korean instructor at our school. 1.5 hours later, they informed us that we weren't eligible for a contract. This was AFTER...
...they had set up our phone numbers...
...photocopied our ARC, Passports and Debit Cards...
...handed us working cell phones with the numbers we chose...
...charged us 30,000 won each for the phone...
Then decided it was a no go.
I kid you not, we had working cell phones IN OUR HANDS and with our bags, chargers, and everything, and they took it back. They said since "We did not have CREDIT CARDS, but rather CHECK CARDS with the VISA emblem on them, we couldn't get cell phones."
Obviously, we were pissed. We literally walked RIGHT NEXT DOOR to LG Telecom and within 30 minutes, had 2 pretty little white slider Sky IM-S250L phones that we paid 30,000 each on a 17,000 a month / 1 year contract, for which we get:
-200 minutes.
-unlimited text messages.
-unlimited TV shows.
-unlimited incoming calls.
All it took was our ARC cards, and Bank book, and we were good to go. We walked right back to the SHOW place and gave them the finger with our new phones in hand.
I don't know if ALL "SHOW" places are like this, but the LG Telecom place right outside Ori station was great. The owner even slipped up and forget to charge us and, kindly, called us the next day asking if it was okay if we "came back by to pay for the phones since he didn't charge us". I confirmed this via my bank and it seems that not only did he give us a good contract, but he sent us on our merry way for 24 hours with working cell phones that he FORGOT TO CHARGE US FOR.
Total price: 30,000 won for a more than good enough cell phone, and 17,000 on a year contract, that we can cancel 6 months in.
Go LG, in my opinion. I can't recommend the LG store in Ori enough.

| Yes LG are great. They let me have a contract even though I only have one month left on my ARC. I told them I am renewing and my word was good enough for them. I walked out 20 minutes later with a shiny new phone with 1800 LG to LG minutes and 200 text messages for 19,000 a month. |

| anyone know more about the plans LG offers? I want to switch from prepaid to a plan too but I don't really use the phone that much. It's a hassle for me to deposit it when I REALLY need to use it though. |

Wow. The rule is six months remaining on your visa. Glad that you could do it the way you did. |
