I've met some people here who travel abroad for cultural or other mind expanding reasons but there is a subset of overseas travellers- usually young, shallow females- who want to go to places just to get their picture taken in front of monuments to show off to people. Also, shopping seems to be one of the highest on their agenda.
I remember stupid girls back home who wanted to go to Europe just to go shopping. You know why? just so they can buy some clothing, bag, or shoes that no one else in their area has- travel all that way just so they can buy something unique.
It's a very dumb reason for travelling, but if it makes them happy, that's their business.
The world never has a shortage of stupid, shallow people.
Anyway, as a side note, have you heard of "Paris Syndrome"?

Especially Japanese tourists having mental breakdowns when they arrive in Paris and realize it's not the paradise of their dreams!

hehehe...Maybe I am a LITTLE jealous, 'cause I'd rather be in paris right now than teaching today, because I also have my worst class of elementary kids today. I hate them! I also know that when I do go in the not so far off future, I will have way more fun than her. |

| hahaha...Just saw her complaining again on her cyworld page. She said she is in Belgium now and that Europe is so expensive and it's crazy. Then she said she misses Korea and kimchi...hehehe...Only 4 days in Paris??? I love kimchi, too, but if I were in Europe, I'd enjoy their foods, too. |

Ummm...technically??? No. I was in Istanbul twice, which is the only city in the world to lie on both the European and Asian continents. But I have plans for the not so far off future to go to "Europe". And I won't whine and complain and moan...or look for kimchi or burgers everywhere.  I've got to read that book "Ugly Koreans, Ugly Americans". That is a major way Koreans and Americans are alike. Both make bad travelers, looking for kimchi or burgers everywhere they go. On my first trip to Istanbul, I went witha few people. They all had to have Burger King at the airport one last time before we left, then they complained about the food in Istanbul, and then when we came back, they nearly killed themselves driving back from the airport to get over to a Burger King. hahaha!!! |

This Paris Syndrome thing is very interesting. Two of my coworkers cracked up yesterday when I told them about this. I thought the Japanese were better travelers than this. So Paris has rude taxi drievrs??? Doesn't every place in the world have them? |

Oh my. I know. I loved it. I want to go back there a third time someday. Not to mention the architecture is amazingly beautiful. I bought myself a beautiful Turkish carpet the second time I went, too. I loved the Grand Bazaar, too. I got a big tin of Beluga caviar there for so cheap. I couldn't even finish it all. And the spices...oh my.  |
