Lots of unknowns were playing that style of music in the states before the Kinks. The Kinks were just the first band that got rich off of rock 'n' roll. |

If anybody is interested in some traditional "American" music I highly recommend the Alan Lomax collection which can be purchased on itunes (with DRM) or Amazon music (DRM free!!). IT ranges from Southern gospels to bluegrass to prison chain gang songs.
