| I have a Panasonic Lumix which is good for my use but if I were in the market for a new P&S I'd get a Finepix.....Z whatever. |

Well, my wife and I learned the hard way that some camera makers (Nikon, for one) are actually purposefully going BACKWARDS in picture quality on the low-end cameras to protect their more expensive lines.
As you can imagine, the quality levels started reaching a point where more megapixels were no longer important to the consumer, as they've already figured out they don't need 8 megapixels plus in a low-end camera.
It's sad, but the new cameras today are often much WORSE than the ones which came out 2 or even 3 years ago. I kid you not -- the Nikon camera we bought my mother (based on reviews on Amazon) is absolute crap... about as bad as my 2 megapixel Kodak from 2002 was. Yes, despite being something like 7 megapixels, it looks that awful!
Every so often, you see a review on Amazon saying, "This camera is horrible... where did all of these positive reviews come from?"
I am convinced that Nikon employs part-timers to write positive reviews for their cameras. As I mentioned before, my wife says her cosmetics company does this. She says it's standard practice these days. |

I wanted that Casio Exslim that was up for sale a few weeks back for the missus
She has the original one - 1.3M tiny little thin thing. World record breaking at the time.
She loves it. bought her couple of new batteries and a 2gb memory card for it for 20k - about as much as the camera is worth.
If I could get her a newer model 3M cheap I would jump on it. |
