IlIlNine, got a link for a decent sound card in Korea? Read good things about HDA Digital X-Mystique 7.1 but can't find it in search on K-sites.
That Yamaha looks nice (especially like the multiple opticals and HDMI to the TV) but I might spend a little more for some more power. |

When using a digital connection from a PC to a receiver (or similar AV device), the analog specs of the sound card become irrelevant. The key is then to get a card which outputs digital signals at their original sampling rate (44.1kHz for CD, 48kHz for DVD, etc.).
All sound cards with digital output will support 48 kHz sampling rate, but 44.1 kHz is less commonly supported (some cheap cards such as the Chaintech AV710 work great for this application). In theory, even some on-board 'sound cards' should support this feature, but I can't confirm it (the on-board AD1988 chipset, for one supports it, but the current drivers may not)
The purists will tell you that it is better to use the S/PDIF over RCA, rather than its optical variant (unless you have a ground loop issue, or your receiver only has optical inputs). It is worth a try..
Besides this, there is little difference between a $25 and a $1000 card in this setup (yes, jitter can be a factor, and a balanced digital connection can carry a signal much further...).
One final comment: it may be helpful to have a 'fall back' analog connection for multichannel audio between your PC and receiver, as there are formats which can't be decoded by receivers (WMA multichannel, and formats in the drawing board), and because there is only so much information which can transit over an SPDIF connection (which was designed 25 years ago for CD audio).

*beep* know then.
What I read the other day was that the DDL and DTS was passed coded from the sound card to the amp.
These people are saying that it's all about the sampling rate.
PM me the link to your mother boards Spliff and can take a look and see if there is an SPDIF connection on it. Could save you 100k if there is. |

This one should be alright:

As long as the signal is digital, the output will be crisp. Sound card amplifiers are notoriously bad (especially since they have to work in the relatively 'noisy' confines of a pc)... bypassing it using a digital output is the way to go.
I'm not sure how much power you require -- if you have a largish living room I could see it... but this TSS is actually quite loud. I have no problems disturbing neighbors with it... just saying...
no, it's not 'audiophile' - but nor is it a POS made in china 5.1 system. it sounds decent. really. |

They are passed though to the amp which decodes the 5.1 signal. The sampling rate 'issue' is a bit of a non-issue... most soundcards pass through whatever sampling rate they're given.
The sound card I linked is 40.. I'm sure I paid less (maybe 30) for mine and it works with everything I've thrown at it. |

There is a model #800 in the US. See if you can find that one in Korea. |

Yeah, Bass, the HT-SR800 is MUCH better. I can't find any links for it available in Korea. The HT-SR600 is like 438,000 here and 159$ in the US.
Anybody help w/ a link? |
