I'm Canadian, jackass. I don't respect symbols. And I certainly don't feel pride in the geographic region with colonial borders in which I was born. I had nothing do with the establishment of those borders or any meaningful policy outcome therein. If you want to take "pride" in your country, that is, to take some responsibility for the good, you also have to take responsibility for the bad. I had nothing to do with either. I'm indifferent.
All that, and my mind functions. Nationalism is fodder for idiots.
You hippie, unwashed, anti-American types are a sore upon the Dominion. |

From one of your southern neighbors: Agreed.
Although I'm betting that our nationalists are bigger jackasses than your nationalists.
"freedom isn't free..." A right buncha tw@ts down here.
Reminds me... While walking throught the store with one of my friends we saw some guy standing in line with one of those insufferable patriotic t-shirts. This one read; ENDURING FREEDOM and had a pic of what I think was an aircraft carrier. After exchanging a glance my friend says to me, "What, until something better comes along?"
Ah... Good times with equivocation. |

In a perfect world. An oldie but a goodie.
Note: Even if you do make it into The United States of Canada, using the phrase "freedom isn't free" or sticking a maple leaf on your backpack automatcially gets you deported to Jesusland. |

We're in on it, but we don't give a shit. it's our flag, so have some respect, jackass. |
The joke is that many backpackers wear the flag to ward off anti-American sentiment, because without the flag Canadians are completely indistinguishable from Americans.
I don't think that pride in one's country is necessarily silly, but genuine animosity between Canadians and Americans certainly is. |

You've obviously not talked to many Americans and Canadians. Generally, it's not difficult to tell us apart. Accents, speech patterns, word choice, these are two very different countries.
As for not being proud of your country to mises, whatever floats your boat dude. |

Y'know, I always wondered "What's up with Canadians? Why do they always have a chip on their shoulder? Why do they always seem to have something to proove? Why do they think America is out to get them, when most of us really don't care, and even have fond feelings towards our northern neighbors?" Then I read some (not all) of the Americans in the various "Canada vs. USA" threads floating around these boards...
Now I understand why Canadians so often feel the need to go to great lengths to assert their national uniqueness. Unbeknownst to me there are plenty of loud, ignorant, unthinking, flag-wavers that make the rest of us look bad.
To you Canadians, let me just say that anyone who says America invented freedom and sunshine, or that the war of 1812 never happened, do NOT represent all of us. Most of us think Canada is just fine. Let's ignore the dumb-a$$ yokels on both sides of the border and go read a book. |

Something tells me you haven't been in Korea long enough to meet many Canadians. Given a little time and more experience, I'll bet you revise your position to: There ain't a dimes worth of difference between the jackasses. |

First off, stupid thread. F*cking childish.
Second, they both equally suck!
Well... Canada sucks slightly less, but they both still suck!!! |

I don't think Americans who put flags on their front porches are jackasses, not at all. I think it's cool, actually.
and likewise, I don't think that putting a symbol of your country that you are proud of on your bag is anything to ridicule or be embarassed about.
Americans and Canadians have a lot to be thankful for, and I'm not going to piss on the memory of the men who fought in WWI and WWII by saying nationalism is for suckers.
Most people wouldn't be such big talkers if they were inside a veterans/legion hall.
Some people need to study a history book, or stop smoking so much pot, and get a clue. |

Except the nationalists in Korea get an audience the size of 4 people. The nationalists south of the border get hundreds of millions of people as their audience. |
