But as a blanket rule, no government should spend money on the promotion of any religion. But should a government put pacific coast indian totem poles in museums. Isn't that religion?

I don't know, do you consider that religion? Hence the question. Pretend you're Korean and it's your tax money.

Also, as a Canadian what would you consider to be promotion of religion and what counts as just culture?

Ummm totem poles aren't part of a native american religion?

Just find it very very weird a clear example of religious intolerance by christians you some how want to frame as a demonstration of inconsistency by atheists. You're really really really really really out to lunch on this.

I don't think so - I talked with one atheist on the board here that was against anything of the sort, so I know there are at least a few out there. His reasoning was based on the fact that (in this case anyway) the church association could have a valid claim for a bit of tax money of its own. We have a long history too, Buddhism is still a major religion, all we want are a few statues showing historical Christianity, and voila, some more tax money, this time for Christianity.

I also clearly wrote in the op that the church association is way out to lunch on this, and on the Koreabeat post (put it up there too) I suggested that anybody visiting the airport make sure to let them know that they look great, they're worth the money, and that they shouldn't cave in to any pressure to take them down. I just see no reason to keep the discussion limited to a single event.
