| The Nation of Islam is a fairly respected organization in black ghettos in the United States. You know this. They walk around in their silly outfits and try to convince the kids to stay off drugs etc. Even Bill Cosby has given them positive remarks. Michelle is a community outreach director for the UofC, which is in some tough areas in Chicago. There are any number of reasons that due to her job she would have to deal with the NOI and others as a requirement of her job. I'd like to know the context of that photo. |

The Klan says they want to help out poor people.
I would like to know more about the context of that photo too.
but the nation of Islam is also a hate group and anti American. IF you don't hate them then you ought not to be president. |

I'm no friend of anything islam. But his wife being in a picture with many other women, all of whom seem to be prominent in some way, doesn't in any way demonstrate anything at all.
Joo, if we judge people based upon who they are loosely associated with, nobody would ever be judged well. We all have friends who have done or said stupid stuff. I have friends from way back who believe in any number of Jewish conspiracies. That doesn't mean I believe in them. Nor does me not imposing a idelogical litmus test of who I am in photograhps with mean that I am indifferent to the things people who I have been photographed with believe.
The picture in question looks like it was a gala of some kind and could very well have been part of MO's job. |

I don't care about the religion . Many/ Most muslims who know about the nation of Islam in fact think that the Nation of Islam is a cult.
I agree this much: it is somewhat of a small item but it is not a non- item. This is to be president of the USA. Everything counts. Especially with the Rev Wright controversy. How many whacky people do you have to be near before it does become an issue? At some point it does become an issue. A president is not supposed to tolerate these types , a president is supposed to be against these types.
Rev Wright
Weatherman terrorist Ayers
Now the wife of Farakan.
I don't think Obama agrees with these people in the least . I don't think he likes them but does he hate them enough? Is he opposed to them enough?
Anyway it is in response to the thread right before mine. Please understand that that is the context. |

| Yeah, I have the context. I just can't find the inspiration to care about a photo of his wife at a formal event with the wife of a dude who is not a good guy. Just seems petty. |

Joo, you are aware that George H.W. Bush has had speaker fees paid by the Reverend Moon, right? Since we're talking about cults.
And what do you think about Pat Robertson's "banking conspiracy" innuendo? How many Republican candidates do you suppose have had their photo taken with him? |

Those guys are bad I would say more whacky than bad but Farakan is worse put it this way he is even more anti US and more of a bigot then those guys are. If Al Qaeda found 10,000,000 soldiers some where on mars and invaded the US Farkhan and his followers would join in. Moon and Robertson want to change the US in a way I do not support. Farakan wants to see it burnt to the ground.
Anyway Bush's photo with Moon and Bush's friendship with Pat Robertson counts too.
When you are the president everything , everything counts.
For the record I found it very offensive when Bush visited Bob Jones University. Then again I was happy to support Al Gore in 2000. So maybe that doesn't count. |
