What kind of assbackward system is THAT? Is your course work finished? So have you already taken a seminar on research methods and at least a workshop on writing a proposal?

If not, these are integrated into the thesis process, and students, especially at the Master's level, need a lot of help from a thesis advisor.

Let us know where you're going to school. Sounds micro-managed at the departmental leadership level, and not very student oriented.

Oh yeah, course work is finished, took the pro-seminar directed towards research methods...

I've been researching Joyce for many years, so I pretty much know what's up and where I stand. It's annoying because I do need some advice but my Dean is very busy and can't email me back ever. Also, it's the summer so it's not really good timing. I called her and left a message as well.

What I ended up doing was tracking down a prominent Joyce scholar at Stanford and I emailed her and she emailed me back. She's an alma mater at my university, so she's aware of the red tape that goes into graduate work there. She hasn't returned my most recent email where I filled her in on my research topic, so I am awaiting that.

I have read the "Thesis Manual," but that only really concerns publication info and manuscript rules.

Eh, it will be okay. The main concern is that I have all my research (and extra) on my computer before coming to Korea so that I can write it here and be prepared as much as possible.
