Glad you're happy with your computer.
I just got my new computer up and running. Vista is doing fine for me. I'm actually liking it. It's taken me a bit to figure out where some of the buttons are that I need, but overall, I'm very happy. |

Yeah, Vista isn't so bad. I was so afraid of it after hearing the bad reviews. I googled "vista tweaks" and got some pretty good advice.
This one I found very helpful and easy to follow:

Spurred by an e-mail from someone deep in the marketing ranks, Microsoft last week traveled to San Francisco, rounding up Windows XP users who had negative impressions of Vista. The subjects were put on video, asked about their Vista impressions, and then shown a "new" operating system, code-named Mojave. More than 90 percent gave positive feedback on what they saw. Then they were told that "Mojave" was actually Windows Vista.
"Oh wow," said one user, eliciting exactly the exclamation that Microsoft had hoped to garner when it first released the operating system more than 18 months ago. Instead, the operating system got mixed reviews and criticisms for its lack of compatibility and other headaches.
Saying 'Vista sucks' has simply been a band-wagon reaction by those who never tried it. Now that any original problems have been ironed out, something all new OS's have to go through, it's a perfectly good OS.
The x64 versions seem especially well supported. The amount of scare-mongering on the web about 'going x64' is crazy. A lot of web-talk is just people regurgitating what they've read on other websites, yet don't really have hands-on experience themselves. |

| All I hear is that Vista is slower than XP, and requires more ram to function properly. |

You mean a product that is several years newer needs more hardware to run it properly? Are you also complaining about COD4 and other new games needing more RAM and video cards? It's the same thing.
I'm almost finished installing SP1 now and I still have no major complaints (once I figured out how to get stop UCC). It's working fine for me and I see no reason to go back to XP. Yeah, my boot up time is slower, but everything else is much faster.
Ex.) Copying Files from one folder to another. I have some game mods of Medal of Honor totaling about 1GB. I have to copy these files from the Main game file to the Main files for the 2 expansion packs so they are available in every version of the game. On my old machine (XP) it took about 3 minutes to do this. On my new one (Vista) it took under a minute.
I haven't had a lot of time to play with it, still getting everything installed, but I have to say that I agree when people say "those who complain about Vista are the ones who've never used it." |

If I pay for a new computer I want to be able to run games, applications etc. efficiently. Now I feel that not only am I paying extra for a computer just to run the operating system, the applications I want to use run slower because of it. |

IMO, unless you get a computer preloaded with Vista...there is no reason to upgrade.
Most games perform better with XP than Vista. And the games that Vista wins on are only marginally better.
Still way more support for XP than Vista, though it is making some strides.
But really most people just don't want to upgrade their computer just to run Vista. Especially if they are just surfing the web and doing minor downloads. |

Well, I'm interested in playing with Vista, but we don't need new computers in our house and I'm not interested in paying to upgrade.
Is Vista more pissy about illegal software? |

| I think the problem most people have with Vista is that the increased requirements outweigh the benefit of having it. I remember MS used to promise nice advances in Vista but cut it back over the years until there's not much reason to have it. |
