Speaking from experience.....if you work for a hagwon, immigration will give you permission to work part-time at a university. If you work at a university, however, immigration will not give you permission to work part-time at a hagwon. At a first glance it doesn't seem to make sense, but I think the reasoning is that you will/may end up working more hours at a hagwon and immigration won't allow you to work more hours at a second job than you are working under your primary sponsorship.

To the original poster.....don't do it unless you are willing to accept the risk and you really want to help your friend. Besides, a true friend wouldn't base a friendship on your decision in this matter.

In other words, the old ajosshis at Immigration are embarrased that you can make a lot more money than them.

You'd be completely potty & gullible. Dear girl, you must be fresh off the banana boat! Loads of potential trouble, 20,000 won per hour for working in your free time under crap conditions? Madness! Don't sell yourself short. At least double that rate. You may even get into a squabble over something you did in the lessons when your buddy returns and there goes the friendship. It happens. Stay well clear. Listen to CrazyLemonGirl, and just say no way, it's too dodgy!

The consensus opinion pretty much seems to be DON'T DO IT!! ..

So at least now I feel less unreasonable about deciding to turn her down.

Firstly just because its illegal, and I dont feel entirely comfortable about breaking the law (it doesn't seem as though I can get authorisation from immigration, as originally suggested) Secondly, because its illegal I risk my job and deportation if someone decides to inform immigration (for whatever reason) Finally, this break will be the only chance I'll (hopefully)get to spend time with my BF before he disappears for 3 months back to the US/Europe (I presently see f*** all of him as it is, which is very hard on both of us)

Thanks guys.

is it just me? This has got to be a no brainer.

What your friend is requesting is commonly know in Australia (so she should know) as "a big ask". That is she's asking a lot, and if she's any sort of a friend she will realise this, and thank herself lucky that you're even considering it!!

I wouldn't tie myself up in knots about it tell your friend the truth why you don't want to do it, she should accept your explanation.

If you want to help her out offer a week of your services, and leave it up to her to find other replacements.

And just why is it she wants to go home for a month anyway(there doesn't seem to be any mention of why she wants her holiday at the expense of yours)?

Cheers
