| For example, in the US, your average desk job would get about 8 days of national holidays plus two weeks paid vacation which you can take whenever you like. (Similar to the average Korean hagwon, except that you dont have much say in when your vacation weeks are here.) However, if youre higher up on the rung in the USA, vacation expands to 3 to 4 weeks paid. |
My dad was a Canadian steel worker for most of his life. His company (from '89-'00 the plant was actually Korean-owned by the Sammi Group) gave him 4 weeks paid vacation plus one week for every 5 years he was there. By the time he retired he was getting 11 weeks a year, not counting scheduled plant shutdowns (another 2-4 weeks per year). I think he spent more time golfing around town and fishing up north than he did actually working. |

| Japan is REALLY sh!tty. The average private language school EFL teacher will receive NO Japanese public holidays and only 5 paid holidays per year. Additionally, for working Japanese public holidays you will not be paid overtime. |

I guess I have it good. I don't get public holidays off, but the school just puts them all together so I get a total of 6 weeks paid off a year. |
